Yeah I also noticed that in the Engadget pics, will this mean new cases or does everything stay in the same spot?

Darn beat me to it lol.

The phone looks like it maintains its form factor...unless you're seeing any physical changes to the shape. The available cases out there should work just fine.

Didn't the Engadget pics show a slight variation of the headphone jack and on/off switch?

I think it will mean all new cases because the leaked photos of the "iPhone 5" antenna showed the headphone jack was in a different place :(

The vibrate switch has moved down. So previous cases will not fit. This was shown with the leaked images a few days back.

The Verizon website has been updated. It also has a front pic of the new CDMA iPhone.

It lets other devices, up to 5 in this case, use the iPhone's wifi to access the internet.

Not really, you wont be able to surf the web during a call or look up your notes or check your mail, it's a step backwards really

    From the Q&A:

"11:25AM Question from Ars Technica: what happens when you're on a call and need to use data?

Dan: Same as a CDMA device.

    So... you don't."

how is an additional feature that you can just turn off 'a step backwards'?

besides, i'm wondering whether it'll be an app that will be distributed via the appstore or whether it will be some sort of network setting, like the current version of tethering (which only works over bluetooth and USB, currently)

If the iPhone has access to wifi, why do people need the iPhone to share it. Won't they just get on wifi themselves? I think it's a tethering option on 3G don't you think?

doesnt that mean Apple would have to send out a separate ios update for each iphone now (ATT and Verizon) bc ATT doesnt allow wireless hotspot so the feature wouldnt be in the software

Actually I just noticed this. Click that link again. And then underneath the pic of the iphone there's a button that says "More About iPhone" or something. Click that.... it's the same iphone that we have. No antenna change. Maybe that just defaults to the Apple site?

nah, if it's not an app but a network settings feature, it'll be unlocked by carrier settings bundles

i have the same firmware as you do, i got free tethering because my carrier allows for it, though

The iPhone accesses the internet through 3G. And say your friend has an iPod touch, which is wifi only, the iPhone can link with the iPod with wifi therefore allowing the iPod to access the internet.

Everyone keeps saying that like its a big deal. The entire time I had my iphone, I never needed to talk and get on the internet at the same time.

oh, you mean that limitation of CDMA being a step backwards.

well, i suppose that's something, some people are willing to accept for having a more reliable network in their area.

You use your iPhone differently than I do. I use voice + data on my iPhone all the time.

At least you can still use voice and data simultaneously if you're connected to WiFi.
