The phone is great, but when you do hit the low signal areas be careful where you hold it because you will drop calls without a case. Personally, I have only dropped one call at a grocery store without a case. As that may sound good I am still a little annoyed because I never dropped a call before in Northern California with my previous iphone.

My bumper works a treat as i get no problems at all.

Didn't really get any without it as i didn't hold it at the bottom because of the problem but now i can, it also makes it look better in my opinion.

Cannot tell you if it is good or bad but I hear people saying that iPhone 4 with built week starting 27 have been modified (coating on the antenna). That is too me pure speculation and cannot proof this...
Maybe you are in a poor reception area...AT&T sucks anyway.
I have a week 26 and live in Paris, France...never had a single issue with reception. But we have a strong network in Paris. I am taking some vacation soon in a remote location where the reception is poor and will be able to compare my iPhone 3G vs. my iPhone 4...it's going to be interesting.
X

I bought a week 30 the other night....i have zero problems.

Putting a case on the phone prevents your skin conductivity from bridging the antenna seam, so it 100% solves the one finger attenuation. What it won't necessarily solve is the problem most phones have to some degree, if you actually block the antenna with your hands. Personally, I have not experienced any problems, but I do use a bumper. I'd be afraid to carry a glass phone around without any case.

Wish that was the case.

I had a 3GS that I upgraded to an iPhone 4.

So, in the same location I used my 3GS phone daily with
no signal loss and no dropped calls, the opposite is happening
with the iPhone 4.

I can see the signal loss go from full 5 bars to nothing
just by placing my hand over the line on the bottom of
the phone.

Yeah, I had the same problem. My 3GS didn't have it. The bumper helped the issue somewhat and it did it better than a loose old 3GS case. I decided to return it under the 30 day mark and wait for fixes for the other issues though. I love iPhones above all else, and I'm sure they'll address everything.

That's a shame. I have a better signal and no dropped calls with my iPhone 4. Sounds like you should return the phone and get something else. Or go back to your 3GS.

do you really feel the need to go into every thread and brag about how your phone has no problems and pretty much mock them all?

I think the reason people in the forum may act a little rude is simply due to the fact that day after day after day people still continue to post about the antenna and reception issues with the iPhone 4. The issue is not a issue at all and if you are one of the few that suffer from it the solution has been repeated a thousand times in here and all over the internet. So once more here it is again!

If your iPhone 4 is having issues with dropped calls due to a decrease in the signal strength when you cover the antenna then put a case or bumper on it! - It solves the problem! It is not a myth or rumor.

If you are having a problem with the proximity sensor causing you to put calls on speaker or hanging up there is a software fix on the way that will correct this issue in a matter of days.

If still in doubt of what you should do go back and watch the Apple press conference again. If still in doubt here is a link for a phone that would be best for you - http://www.jitterbug.com/

Definitely has helped me. I never really had a problem with calls dropping though, just the bars dropping. Got the bumper for protection. Good thing cause I dropped my iP4 in the parking lot today and it saved me from crying.

And remember to play nice with each other. Snarky rude comments do nothing except prove that you are snarky and rude. Let's keep the community positive!

I find it hard to believe that the OP, who has been a member of Macrumors since 2007 is so completely out of touch that he was unaware of the antenna problem. I have to believe his comments are tongue-in-cheek.

Are you referring to me?

No, I'm the original OP.

And I have been a member here since 2007
contributing hundreds of posts. I own so
much Apple equipment I am on top of
everything that has been announced about
their products.

So, no, I am not out of touch. It's just that
you don't understand why I asked the question
that I did.

Steve Jobs is telling everyone that there is
no problem. Apple has a press conference
that has all these keynote slides showing how
much the public is getting riled up over nothing.

...so based on that I figure, "okay, now I can
buy an iPhone 4."

But this phone has a mind of its own. As
soon as I place my hand over the antenna the
signal drops and I lose everything including 3G.

So, I had to come on this forum -- one of my
favorite Mac forums -- and ask for myself if
there really still is a problem.

I didn't want to wade through a million posts
from people who asked the question weeks
ago before Steve Jobs addressed the media.

Really surprised by some of the responses
I received. A troll? Are you kidding me?
I run a forum of my own and we refer to
someone as a troll who posts something
for the sake of creating negative controversy.

Certainly, that was not my intent but some
of you were happy to misread my post and
go for the jugular.

Thanks to those of you who helped.
