I received 2 iPhone 7 plus 128gb black matte from T-Mobile recently and I want to switch to my old SIM card. However one phone was no problem but the other just doesn't want to open. I don't know what to do or how to resolve this issue. Anyway to open the slot without going through trouble of going to apple or T-Mobile store. Thanks!!

A small paper clip has always worked. Just push it straight in. Never really heard of one not opening. Push harder?

Oh, that doesn't sound good. Even when I use a paper clip instead of a sim tray tool I can open all of the sim trays on my various phones I've used recently like the Samsung Note 7a, 7b (after recall) S7 and all of my iPhones and iPhones belonging to family members. A sim tool works a bit faster and steadier but paper clips definitely work, too, especially the large ones. If you're still not able to get it opened by now definitely run over to your carrier first and let them know you've got a defective iPhone.

Yea I'll go tomorrow Am! And see if they can open it! It seems the slot isn't either aligned or just whoever put in T-Mobile SIM in there might have put it in the wrong way

I used a thumbtack with my Samsung phones, but it wouldn't open the SIM tray on my new iPhone 7plus. I had to use the supplied SIM removal tool to get it open.

It could be jammed. Does it sit flush with the body of the phone? I once didn't have my S7 sim tray pushed all the way in. It wasn't jammed but it wasn't seated the way it should have been, but it worked anyway.

I've never been supplied with a sim removal tool for iPhones since IPhone 4, I think it was, but one did come with my Note 7. It did make a difference--the sim removal tool seems to make the sim pop out easier and faster than when I use a paper clip. I wouldn't use a thumbtack because I thought it might be too pointy to distribute the force evenly.

The sim eject tools are really cheap, you should get one.

But don't worry, it was hard for me even with the tool. Just gotta press hard and firm.

Just push it hard with a paperclip...Thats what I do when I don't have the sim remover tool. The sim remover tool makes it 100x easier.

The secret is...It's a lot simpler than you think! You're just overthinking it.

With the additional waterproofing rubber gaskets the tray on the 7 'feels' a little stiffer to open than the 5 and 6 felt when swapping phones between me and my OH, just a bit of extra pressure required.

Also I think it it was iFixit who said because of the new waterproofing measures, the eject button now has an additional part, IE, before you used to press the button directly, now you press on an exterior button that then moves a pin to press on the 'real' button internally etc.

You gotta put much more force into it to get it open compared to the previous gen

If it's not opening, then I would not apply to much force. Tou could subject it to damage. Take it in to your carrier or have it replaced.

Agreed. I put my existing SIM card in my new 7+ and it took three times the pressure to remove. Just push straight in and it will lift out.

Just experienced this myself and found this thread.

Find something soft to wrap around the paper clip or safety pin (I used the edge of a bed sheet) and push hard.

The additional force doesn't seem as bad when you don't have a tiny metal thing digging into your finger when you push.

Got my phone about 5 p.m. But I cannot open the sim-card tray. The needle can be inserted into the hole on the tray with about 5 millimeters for the iPhone 6s. But for my iPhone 7 Plus, it just inserts a little, like one millimeter. Contacted apple support, the rep said it should be the manufacturing problem or something what. Have to send it back and wait for another week at least.

Anybody had that problem or something like that?

Another forum member posted on this issue a week ago. Don't force it to open. Send it back for Apple to replace it. If it's posing this type of difficulty, I would definitely return it for a replacement.

    Cannot open it at all!

I panicked when I couldn't pop the sim tray out of my new JB 7+ but I just pushed harder and it popped out.
