My first thought is:I think I saw a similar concept awhile back.I forget what blog website had the contest (Gizmodo/Engadget/etc.) but, before the 3G came out they had a contest of what you would want it to look like. I'm pretty sure there was something close to this.

The problem is that Apple designs everything in house.I think they will purposefully ignore this concept. No matter how many people love it. Jobs is too full of himself to think that someone on the outside could make it better than he and his team.

Personally I love the concept, bravo.

That concept is not stunning at all.

The sharp edges would be incredibly uncomfortable.
That Super tiny camera could be 10mp and still produce pics worse than what the iPhone produces right now.
Square home button?
Microphone on face of phone?

the list goes on

This concept sucks

the mockup from last year

Does anybody remember a mockup iPhone that pictures of were posted on this forum last year? Just before the iPhone 3G came out. It had a front face camera. Maybe those were pictures of the 3rd edition and not second like people thought. Just a thought...

It looks nice, but I think the edges should be a little more rounded. It looks a little bulky and brick-like in that image. I do like the color though.

I Like it. But the size of the IMG made my eyes hurt.

click the image to view it ...

Tainter,
Pixellated posted that reply when the image wasn't in thumb size, that's why he posted that and mentioned TIMG which is the forum tag to resize pictures into a thumb size. The original post has been edited already if you'll check the bottom part of it.

With regards to the thread, still my first impression of the back looks like a game & watch, or probably game boy advance without the :apple: logo.

Toshiba TG01

Videos of its UI

Ooof that interface is mad gimicky.

Booo.

You know, I was going to agree until I looked closer. I now think it's one of the cleverest new UIs I've seen in years.

Notice that each vertical strip is an application. Media player, web browser, text editor, games, etc. And within each strip are little pictures of the various associated files.

So you flip to the browser strip, then scroll it vertically to the bookmark you want. Ditto for music, video, document files, games, apps.

Pretty slick idea, although as strip length grows, it would painful to use if there's no support for subdirectories. :)

For a minute there i thought i was looking a the original Motorola Q minus the keyboard. I really dont see this design coming from apple. The battery cover is laughable.

pretty slick design.

if it were a bit more rounded and the battery cover was gone, I could actually see that coming out.

I wish they would can the plastic.

Forget kid's concepts. Check out reality with the new Toshiba phone, with 1GHz cpu and WVGA screen:

Windows Mobile 6. Enough said.

It wouldnt fit comfortably in your hand. too many hard edges. the 3g fits perfectly.

I agree. The curves of the current (and first gen) iphone are way more attractive and comfortable than this thing would be. There are some good ideas here, but I really hope the actual product is considerably more refined.

It sort of looks cool, but it is not functional at all IMO. The curved back of the iPhone 3G makes it a lot easier to hold in your hand. I had a first gen iPod Touch which had a flat back with slight curves with a similar thickness to this design, but it felt like I was going to drop it all the time.

The brushed metal look would look cool, if only it didn't screw up reception.

Agreed. I'm sure Apple will implement their new battery technology they have in the 17" MacBook Pro into the new iPhone model, which will give more battery life, something we all would love.

FAIL.

You do know that the majority of this "new battery technology" is simply making the battery larger, right? They said this was accomplished in two ways: making it non-removable so mechanisms related to removing the battery is now just space for more battery, and making the cells rectangular in cross section.

Oops, the iPhone battery is already non-removable and rectuangular.

The rest of the "technology" with regards to the chip communicating with the battery was nothing but increasing the number of charge cycles and thus the overall life of the battery.

The current iPhone 3G is much more elegant and sleeker than this one. This looks like something from a sci-fi movie made in the 1980s. A bit too chunky and industrial looking. Although I bet Hummer owners would like this (it's just missing a gas tank). ;)

i would still like either like a black or silver Sleep/Wake Button because if everything was the same color is would be ugly, so toss in a little variety. the Home Button is a little blockish like a couple other peopls said, and the battery cover should be less noticeable.

otherwise i kinda like the concept.

I would want the edges to be more curved. I love how my ipod touch is rounded. When I slide in my jeans pocket it practically disappears because of the rounded edges.
