how about a plastic back with see through features.
I don't think people would find the battery and the back side of the logic board that interesting.
The lack of knowledge of basic electronics is being shown by a number of posts on this thread. With the advent of 3G, it is physically impossible to receive sufficint signal if the iPhone is enclosed in a metal case.
The 3G/WiFi antenna on the iPad is more easily facilitated because of it's vastly larger physical size.
