What is up with this power-color black-red-white thing? I must have missed an announcement event.
That is from the iPhone SE (2020)

iPhone SE (2016) - 1624 mAh - 1136 x 640
iPhone 6 - 1810 mAh - 1334 x 750
iPhone 6s - 1715 mAh - 1334 x 750
iPhone 7 - 1960 mAh - 1334 x 750
iPhone 8 - 1821 mAh - 1334 x 750
iPhone SE (2020) - 1821 mAh - 1334 x 750
iPhone 12 mini - 2227 mAh - 2340 x 1080
iPhone 13 mini - 2406 mAh - 2340 x 1080

It's understandable to have iPhone 6s lower battery capacity than iPhone 6 due to introduction of 3D Touch but iPhone 8 getting a less battery capacity than iPhone 7 when they are virtually about the same thickness, why? Was it because adding glass to the back they needed to shrink the aluminum part which in turn they had to fit a lower capacity battery?

I am one of those that do not like having a notch or punch hole on the screen just to be almost zero bezel... If they are going to release a new iPhone SE in 2022, they should use the iPhone 11 design which is a good balance of resolution and battery capacity/battery life... It may not be full HD but because of the lower resolution and bigger battery it lasted longer than iPhone XR and other smaller form factor iPhones...

Also wishing they re-use the design of iPhone 4/4s and re-adjust it for 16:9 or similar aspect ratio and have a long battery life similar to iPhone 11...

iPhone SE has been a great device for me but the battery hasn’t held up. Last time I buy a device of this form factor.

The A15 cannot save the tiny 1800 mAh battery.
The 13 mini only gets an extra hour over the 12, and that’s with an increase in battery size. The A15 is not magic.

I really hope this rumor is false, or at least use the 8 Plus body. Please Apple, just because it’s the budget model doesn’t mean it has to have such poor experience. Battery endurance shouldn’t be something to be worried about in 2022. We are not in the early days of smartphones here.

I find the likelihood of a spec bump (basically just CPU and adding 5G) next year to be unlikely. There was speculation every year after the 2016 SE waiting for upgrades, and it ended up taking 4 years to get to the 2020 SE. This cycle might be shorter, but I don't see the need from Apple's perspective. They have a decent product in the 2020 SE... it's solid, it's stable, it runs most apps, and it's priced to appeal to the budget buyer. How does 5G help them sell more phones? It just drains power, and you can already get 20+ mbps over LTE. How does a faster chip help them sell more phones? It just costs more, and doesn't help run the apps much better. I think even in 2022 the current SE has incredible value.

The best feature of the 2020 SE, by the way, is the 3GB of RAM and people rarely talk about it; it's the feature that's going to let it get iOS upgrades into 2025 or beyond. In my household we have two 2020 SE and a 2016 SE. The 2016 is totally fine for basic calls, texts, emails, youtube, and facebook. It's really only held back by its 2GB of RAM which causes apps to unload frequently.

I find it extremely credible that the next SE will be based on the XR possibly in mid-2023. That was an extremely well reviewed phone and the battery life was great. By 2023 its camera and screen won't seem so spectacular, but will still offer a decent upgrade to the 2020 SE, especially at a $399 or $429 price point.

They need to move away from this design.
No, it’s a viable option for people who want to continue on with Touch ID and/or LCD displays and/or want lower cost phones for their kids or parents. Having an option for them doesn’t impact other options for people who want the new designs.

2nd generation iPhone SE is the same thickness (0.29 inches) as iPhone 12, 12 mini, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max
Right, compared to the iPhone 13 which is thicker and has much better battery life, and has the 2nd generation 5G modem that is more efficient and further saves battery life.

I don't see this updated SE having any batter battery life than the iPhone 12 mini, for example.

I agree. My mom still uses my old 8 plus because she prefers the Touch ID design, she has no interest in Face ID and all screen design means nothing to her. It’s got a good camera and good battery and easy to use, that’s the selling point

I should have bought a 6sPlus instead of a 6s or upgraded to 8Plus when I could have!!! Reluctant to upgrade now from OS14.8 as now the battery limitations is starting to show even with a newly replaced battery. Hopefully with the new 5G modem and tweaks in the OS we can get to something between iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 mini performance at least.

Battery life seems to be the killer issue nowadays!!

disappointing. I don't see a need to upgrade current SE for this. unless it has way better battery life.

I have both iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 14.8 and iPhone 6s on iOS 13.4

I agree... The battery life of iPhone 6s is not that great... In my few days of using it again after getting the battery replaced, it lasts about 2-3 hours of continuous usage... While my iPhone 7 Plus although it does not have the same battery capacity as the large iPhones of today, it still lasts longer since it has a bigger body and a bigger battery capacity...

Hoping that Apple re-use the iPhone 6/6s/7/8 Plus design instead of the smaller one and keep TouchID or use iPhone XR/11 design if they will be dropping the TouchID for the next iPhone SE they will be releasing...

Yes that Plus modal battery with its screen size would get me by nicely until I wanted to spurge on something more fancy later. Gonna be a long long wait until 2023 to get that larger SE modal. Next Autumn 2022 based on previous rumors ....signs of a non pro Max modal emerging....6.7 inch screen I think ...but that price point may be high so if it does indeed emerge might have to wait further to compare it to the larger SE modal. Getting confusing as to what will really happen and how it will be named....will there be TWO non-pro modals with larger screens? I guess if I wait until Spring 2023 I can then make my decision ...LOL!!!!!!! I think I might fold before then....most likely my 6s will pack in.

Multiple component suppliers in Apple's supply chain are gearing up for shipments of a third-generation iPhone SE, slated for launch in the first half of 2022, according to industry sources cited by Taiwanese publication DigiTimes.

The full report has yet to be released, but a paywalled preview reads as follows:Earlier this week, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the new iPhone SE will be equipped with the same 4.7-inch display size and 3GB of RAM as the current model, and the new model is also expected to retain a Touch ID home button and thicker bezels. Kuo previously said key features of the new iPhone SE will include 5G support and a faster processor — likely the A15 chip that debuted in iPhone 13 models and the latest iPad mini.

The new iPhone SE will be released in the first quarter of 2022 specifically, according to Taiwanese research firm TrendForce. If this timeframe proves to be accurate, we can expect the device to be released by the end of March.

Looking farther ahead, rumors suggest that a fourth-generation iPhone SE is slated for launch in 2023 with more significant changes, including a larger display and 4GB of RAM. It's possible this larger iPhone SE will feature a design based on the iPhone XR.

The current iPhone SE launched in April 2020, with pricing starting at $399 for 64GB of storage.

Too much cost for too little memory and battery life. I’m due for a phone and I use MVNOs, so I imagine I’ll be moving to a better value Android.

The current SE is selling for like $200 from prepaid MVNOs. That's cheap. If we see a new SE with the A15, a memory bump, the 13's main camera sensor and the improved battery life from the A15 then I don't see how this won't be a great phone for the price it sells for. Yeah it isn't snazzy but what a freaking amazing phone for those that don't need the latest and greatest. If I has a teen that needed a phone, this is what I'd buy them.

Maybe it's me but I' mused to the home button. So as long as it gets a new CPU / 5G it's instant buy for me.
