Cover Flow is by ARTIST... I have many multi-artist compilations and this creates a ton of clutter

That's my major gripe as well, I think it was arranged by Album not Artist Coverflow would be faster (e.g. less to load).

does not open itunes

does not open itunes automatically when i connect my ipod but the option open itunes when ipod is connected is checked!!!!

I meant compilations being split up in cover flow, by artist - instead of one album with "Various Artists" I have hundreds of the same album, but each with a different artist... Cover flow is essentially useless on the new iPods at the moment - that, is what I'd call a bug

This has annoyed me about iTunes for a while now. I don't bother with album art because of this.

Cover flow by playlist

I want coverflow by playlist on the iPod and iPhone. Just like in iTunes.
Why do I want to browse through THOUSANDS of covers on my iPod? I only want to do it in whatever playlist I'm in at the time...

So is it safer to get a 80 or the 160? I jsut sold my 60gb unit and I need a new ipod. I'll be hooking this up to a PC.

Btw, why the heck does it it 5x longer to connect the ipod on a pc then a mac? I swear Gates did that on purpose. And don't tell me the PC is slower. My pc will run rings aorund 95% of the current apple computers. Its something in the software for the itunes. And its not usb connection as other devices are found fast.

Personally, I think it's better to go with the 80GB. I was in an Apple Store toady, and checked out the iPod classic solely on the lag that people have been complaining about. Yeah, it lag (Apple Store's software was original 1.1) but the 160GB lagged longer then the 80GB, I even tested them side by side to get from the Main Menu through Cover Flow, to a specific My Chemical Romance song. The 80GB took about 3 seconds faster then the 160GB. Either way, it's just personal preference.:apple: Me on the other hand, I have a 16GB iPod touch and I will never go back to having a Hard Drive in my MP3 Player again.

I tried three iPods at the Apple Store Regents Street last week...oddly the interface was as smooth as butter...

well i tried the classics at the Apple Store near me and they were all laggy... but the one i bought is fine. i doubt they took the time to update all the demo iPods.

I dislike the gimmicky album art floating about on the main menu. I'd rather keep my musical tastes private if you don't mind Apple.

How about giving us an option to shut it off?

I read some where the "P" issue when syncing is due to the clock being abled in the menu bar. If you turn it off you'll have "iPod" instead of the "P". Not a fix I know and hopefully Apple will iron out all the bugs with another update because I'm not resetting my iPod with almost 30GB of music and videos on it.

It wont reset your iPod. I updated mine last night with no problems.

I updated my 160GB the day the update came out.

Since then I've restored once, in hopes of getting my album art to show up as expected, instead of sometimes getting a blank until I nav back to "Now Playing", then click, then see the album art. Restoring didn't really fix that.

But lately, I'm starting to feel the UI is getting sluggish again, back to its pre-1.0.1 state. Anyone else seeing a slowdown? I wonder if the album art is choking it.

After messing around with it, I have noticed that the menus are MUCH better and so is the click wheel. Cover flow is still sluggish, and the fact that it is sorted ONLY by album really sucks. I mean, most of the time, it is sorted correctly, but then I start seeing albums twice and so on... I dont really use it, so I dont really care. Im just glad to see the menus working better and the click wheel. Oh, I also have the "P" issue in the title bar when syncing. it only happens if the time is turned ON for the title bar..kinda weird.....

Don't wanna sound harsH - but i have have had ipods since the very first gen 5gb model with the moving wheel to the 4th gen and was looking to update. I honestly think this is the worst ipod they have ever brought to market.

I mean did someone not test this product. I bought mine unwrapped it, and plugged in it, it fails to sync properly, the ipod keeps crashing and is really slow. Update fixes the crashing, but the sync is still terrible. I got another model and it has the same exact problems. This is a pain cos i just bought a macbook and iPod under apple education and to get the rebate, both items need to be on the same sales slip to get the rebate. A bug, i can understand but i feel nobody really tested this piece of tech before it went into production. I am a long term apple customer, and will wait for the next gen iPods, or go with the touch as i am in love with the safari browser, but the classic is really a bad trip.

I havent had any problems, especially since the update. I think that was most people's gripes, and now that the update is out, i think most people are really pleased with it, except for the cover flow stuff. Am I right?

just took te ipod back and i miss it like crazy - so i decided to play with the ones on display in the apple store - they did the same as mine :( - i don't know what to do - my collection is kind of large and my 4th gen is too small - i'll just sync certain playlists i guess - bummer.
