Yes, the BBC mentioned a video iPod, but we don't have any reason to assume they are correct about that.

As for Fox... I WISH all Americans hated Fox, it would give me hope :D But anyway, they're notorious for having the worst journalistic standards. Lowest-common-denominator, conservative-biased infotainment passing as news. Now, those could all be said of 99% of American media (thanks to a few big corporations buying up news outlets) but Fox is the poster child.

People used to make fun of Fox for having non-mainstream programming, too, but then UPN and WB came along :p (And that's no bad thing--news aside, WB and Fox have more programming that interest me than the big 3 networks do.)

size speed bumps and two colours, but no video? why hold an event for that?
Because (my guess) there will ALSO be... "One More Thing."

Still seems like such a big song and dance just to announce what seems to amount to a product refresh.

My sentiments exactly.

So, you're predicting:

1) refreshed computer hardware
2) new iPods w/a different form factor and larger capacities
3) some other hardware announcement?

Yeah, possibly. I've never been a hard core video iPod or tablet proponent. However, I think the time is right for Apple to merge these two concepts. It could even be the first intel-based mac. Still far-fetched, though, I suppose.

Would you like some vested interests with that?

I suspect it's because of Rupert Murdoch and the lack of impartiality on the channel :)

Things I have learned from this thread:

One more thing means ten more things
Madonna is an intelligent slut
Steve Jobs is a pathological liar
Fox News sucks

The tolerance level for the Foxheads increases slightly when they are broadcasting an NFL game.

Funny you mention that. If we keep adding things to this list, we're all sure to be disappointed. I think it's safe to say that there will be a new iPod (or a refreshed iPod lineup) and some computer updates (possibly not even mentioned). Anything more than that (i.e. a completely new device or new software) might be a bit optimistic.

Madonna is an intelligent slut

I know nothing about her intelligence level or tendency to be or not be promiscuous. ;)

Steve Jobs is a pathological liar

Well, as far as I'm concerned, he's very calculated in his lying. He rarely says something that he can't twist out of or even use to his advantage later. I mean, even the infamous 3 GHz comment was used in his favor later on. He sighed and flashed the big white "3 GHz" on the screen and you felt for him. You realized, "Yeah, Steve's right. They have no other choice but go with intel." People might not have felt that way before or even after, for that matter, but Steve gets you in the ol' tractor beam and holds you.

Fox News sucks

Hmm...yeah, I suppose it does. Anytime I have watched it I've gotten that sense that someone was trying to sell me something. Like their news programs are just big infomercials or something. (Did somebody already use the word "infomercial" in describing Fox News?)

Oh well.
Couple of days.

I'm Rupert Murdoch - The Billionaire Tyrant!!

Oh god how glad I am that he's not one of ours anymore.

Rupert Murdoch? Lack of impartiality? Really? :D

I watch Fox News occasionally for a laugh... you don't have to watch it for long to realise why some people hate it.

Pretty much the sum of things... altho I dunno if Madonna is actually an intelligent slut or just a regular one.

Just speculation on new Ipod

This is just and educated guess but how about a Lance Armstrong ipod. During the tour this year there were pictures on the net of Lance listening to an ipod while on his bike. Wouldnt it be cool for a yellow ipod, on the back with a 7 design and his signature with dates of victory and a small tour book in the packaging. A very small portion would go to his foundation (b/c apple wouldnt let anyone take too much of its profits). A great date for release would have been on 10/2 when Lance was diagnosed with cancer but that was a Sunday but the upcoming event is kind of close. Also Sheryl Crow did do some ads on the website for apple with garage band and I think the ipod also. In addition, Steve Jobs had cancer also and survived. Coincidence, we shall see....

I'm not sure how popular that would be. There are many people out there who don't like Lance because of his arrogant cocky attitude, and other people simply aren't huge fans of professional cycling. I think this would have limited appeal. Of course, iPods definitely would lend themselves well to cyclists in general, due to the nature of their activity. ;)

There could be some limited appeal for that, and if they added in special and unique features unavailable in other models, they could even market as "the iPod on steroids." :)

All this talk of new iPod's is great...but if Apple don't update the PB's after all this I am going to be so disappointed :(

Now...Apple better update their freakin' PowerBooks!

:D

I just been out in Central London and some stores selling POWERBOOKS for about 100 pounds less... they usually NEVER have special offers... which raises the suspicion that there might be FINALLY some PB updates on the way.

My Tibook is nearly 4 years old and it starts to give up on me :-(

So i do rely on a powerful mac for work and couldnt care less about ANOTHER ipod.. (i love mine.. in fact both of them.. dont get me wrong) BUT all i want is a more powerful Powerbook.... Getting really desperate.

But signs are good.. so I am hopeful.

I want both! :p
A smaller redesigned iPod with high capacity HDD (I'll take or leave the video function) and a Powerbook with a higher-res screen. I'll be a happy camper. My bank manager will put a hit out on me though... :D

Ouch.

Not at all. I and others just resent being told that our product choices are somehow excessive by people who have no need for them themselves. It's just pathetic...

Isn't calling someone else pathetic because of their opinion a violation of the rules?

Jeez.

Since she said it's pathetic, I believe she was referring to the situation and overall attitude she just described. She didn't say those people are pathetic, there's a difference.

And I agree - that would be like me saying "Why do you need a 2.7 GHz PowerMac, come on, that's way too much power, blah blah blah, I just surf the Net and check e-mail. Why do you guys want more?" Meanwhile there are Pro users out there making a living on their systems and need the fastest, most powerful machines possible for apps like Motion and the like.

Lastly, am I the only one who sees the irony in a person named "igetbanned" submitting a post with no other purpose than to reprimand another member? :p

The guy gives his opinion, and people jump all over him.

'it's' or 'those people', SAME DIFFERENCE.

It's just an opinion, no need to even comment on it if 'the situation and overall attitude' is so 'pathetic'.

And no, you're not the only one to see the irony.

The phrase "one more thing" is gold for Apple - and they know it. To have an announcement with only this phrase has raised a lot of hype and speculation and I believe Apple is going to want it to be worth it. What I would really like to see is Steve J going on stage and brushing off the rumors first:

"People are saying it's a new PM. That's not it, but since IBM is shipping dual cores we decided to also - let me show you". (Followed by 5 - 10 minutes of Keynote slides.)

"People are also saying it's a new PB. That's not it, but since Freescale is now shipping dual cores we decided to also - let me show you". (Followed by 5 - 10 minutes of Keynote slides.)

"People are talking are saying it's a new iPod. That's not it, but since customers have fallen in love with the small size of the nano we've decided to make the iPod smaller - let me show you". (Followed by 5 - 10 minutes of Keynote slides.)

"So what IS the one more thing? Let me show you."

Followed by a new device in the $200 - $600 range that will work very well with TMS's new ability to down load movies for purchase or rent.

Steve J knows that Wall Street is watching this announcement as much as Apple die hard fans and he is going to want to get both excited. He's also going to want to come out with something that will have us reaching for our credit cards. Since I have iPods for every one in the family and our Macs are only just over a year old I look for something that I am going to want to buy.

My guess? Like the original iPod or iSight it will be something very new and different. My credit card is ready - just in case.

Exactly, it's just Blue Velvet's opinion - I'm glad you now see that there was no need for you to even comment on it.
