You are not the first to say that, but let me ask, what kind of pants are you guys wearing? I am an average sized male, and my Nexus 7 fits in my dockers, jeans, and basketball shorts pockets fine...

Won't be the last to say it either because its true. I have a Nexus 7 and there is absolutely no way I am having that big thing stuck in my pocket. Just cause you may can get it in your pocket doesn't mean it will be comfortable. Also I am damn sure not taking it to the gym having that thing flopping around. Having an iPod Touch I can strap it to my arm and its comfortable.

Folks are comparing Apples to Oranges. These are two different products meant to do 2 different things.

It's a bit earlier than expected. It'll be interesting if some will jump for this or a used 4S.

Am I the only one looking at the geekbench score and thinking "wow I forgot just how much faster the iPhone 5 is, to everything else.." ? :D

I'm reminded of that every time I try the 3D flyby map. The 4S is nice but 5 just blazes.

A 7" tablet in a shorts pocket? Holy mackerel. It's just just the space but the weight too. I used to carry a 7" tablet in a short pocket for a bit and it really dragged the shorts down. It's portable in a pinch but I don't know if it's something I'd carry it around all the time like with an iPod Touch. The iPod Touch still stands as the best form factor for a portable device in my opinion.

Could be you lack "something else" that we have that takes up additional space in our shorts. :D

So when I play shadowgun on my Nexus 7, and a CPU monitor show all 4 cores being heavily used, that is just bloat, correct? When I process high MP photos, and again, the CPU monitor shows all 4 cores being heavily accessed, that is just bloat? When I do the same task on my iPad, my specific photos take significantly longer to fully render, but you will certainly forget about that fact after 1 second.
Again, think about down the road as well. As of today there aren't many good multithreaded applications, so a dual may work fine in many cases. Additionally, who knows what will be thaught of and implemented in the mobilesphere in the next several years, so I want my current device to be as powerful as possible now, so I can run those new things, and not have to upgrade at that time.

That is the goal... A present I have an iPad 1. In 2010, when I bought it, it worked well. After iOS5 however, it crashes extremely often, almost making it unusable. Almost every crash can be pinned to its low 256MB ram. Back in 2010, 256MB worked ok, but not anymore. That exact same thing will happen to 5G iPod owners in just a few years, and you know it. The A6 is far more powerful, along with the A5X than the A5, and come iOS7 or later, the iPod 5th gen will struggle. Apple will leave the device behind quick....

Yeah, I have a feeling Apple will give me a good reason to upgrade my 4S next year when they release iOS 7. That's the main reason I was a little disappointed when they didn't upgrade the ram to 1GB last year, just in case I wanted to keep using my 4S a little longer as a backup device to my 5S or 6. I only use my 256MB 3rd gen Touch for music at this point.

Apple may not have the luxury this time of selling the 5th gen Touch for 2 years without a processor/ram upgrade next year.

What a terrible video.

Indeed. The sad thing is about 1400 kids will rip it and re-upload it to youtube with a new voice-over claiming its their unboxing.

I almost ordered a new iPod, but might as well wait til black friday and catch some savings. :)

Which system info tool is running in that screenshot by any chance? I don't recognise it.

Thanks

Wow I'm paying $399 for a iPod touch that's packaged like some cheap toy?

Skimpy apple. Very skimpy.

It's not in a plastic blister pack that you need sheers to cut into. It's clean and simple packaging that clearly shows the contents. And more environmentally friendly by being so minimalistic. I like it.

Also isn't that pretty much the same packaging that was used for the older iPod Touch as well? I don't get the sudden complaints.

"We are delighted to tell you that we plan to ship your order earlier than we had anticipated. We now plan to ship your order on the 12.10.2012."

Nice of them to deliver early!!

I did not know the camera ring protrudes from the actual device.
Very un-apple like. Unless I am seeing this incorrectly?

I will wait to see it in the metal before I pass judgement on whether to buy one.

However, from what I've seen and heard about the protuding lens it looks like sloppy design and no amount of lame excuses will make it look 'right'. The overall look and feel of Apple kit it paramount, and sticky out lenses sound very naff!

No remote and mic at all, check out the Apple-Store:
iPhone 5: ships with "Apple EarPods with Remote and Mic"
iPod Touch: ships with "Apple EarPods"

I wonder when the EarPods without Remote and Mic will be available separately

What I'm sad is it doesn't come with a case for the Earpods.. Sucks.

This article actually prompted me to buy an iPod Touch for my daughter's birthday. I was originally intending to get her a digital camera, and possibly an iPad Mini for Christmas, but this iPod covers both needs.

It's about time the iPod Touch finally caught up to the iPhone. Until this point, it has been gimped. Now it is essentially an iPhone 4 with an iPhone 5 screen. Perfect.

So far, no stock in US stores. The store I visited today at lunch did show that both the 7th gen nano and the 5th gen touch to be pending shipping for stock.

I would guess Monday all US stores will have the new nanos and touches.

I am getting a 7th gen nano in slate. The white bezel looks cheesy to me.

Im looking at it and thinking the same, but for the note 2. What a beast!
