All this talk of camera, multi touch screen, gps etc its all just unrealistic for the touch and will NEVER happen.

I lol'd. Apple making a device named "iPod touch" which features a multi-touch screen and runs the same software as the iPhone? No! That's preposterous!

Except for the likely additions of 3G, third party applications, and more memory, I don't think it'll differ much from the current crop.

I imagine the next iPod Touch will have everything the iPhone has (including GPS) except the cell phone radios. Steve has a thing for phones apparently, but even he knows that he can sell everyone in the world an iPod, but not everyone an iPhone.

multi touch on an ipod touch will never happen you say??

doesn't the touch already have multi-touch? this is from apple.com under iPod Touch features "All using incredible Multi-Touch touchscreen technology on a beautiful 3.5-inch display." source

haha no the user i quoted said that.. i was being sarcastic.. maybe you should just re read the entire post. haha

No no.. He was quoting someone else who actually thought that there would never be Multi-Touch on the iPod touch (which there obviously is already). And the guy you quoted was making a sarcastic comment to the fact that the guy he quoted said there would never be Multi-Touch.

Edit: Just saw kymac's post, damn, beat me to it. BUT OMG, I ACTUALLY GOT IT RIGHT!

Okay, as for realistic predictions for the next iPod Touch, here's what I think:

-$100 price drop (8GB $199, 16GB $299, 32GB $399)
-Possible 64GB version (yes, the technology is there, it's just expensive) which would sell for $499 (and if it were introduced, the 8GB model would be phased out)
-Minor improvements to the interface (cover flow for movies, improved Safari, etc)
-Slightly smaller form factor (less wasted space on the top and bottom, a tad bit thinner)
-Improved battery life
-Possible built-in speakers (unlikely)
-More scratch and smudge-resilient design
-Wi-Fi sync with iTunes
-New built-in apps, including free games (same idea as iPod Classic/Nano) and potentially iChat
-Possible multiple colours
-September release

No, there will not be a camera, bluetooth, 3G, a phone, GPS or anything like that in the next iPod Touch. Just as Apple proved when they first launched the iPod Touch, it's an iPod, not an iPhone without the phone.

I highly doubt anything drastic is coming for the iPod Touch. None of the above features I listed are drastic; they are mostly progressions of what's already there. And while not everything on my list will come true, I expect at least a portion of it will.

Agree what you said will happen, for the most part, though it's not what I want. :( What I really want IS an iPhone without the phone, but there's no way you can buy the iPhone 3G and not use the phone part.

And Apple would never sell a Touch for $199. It would undercut the Nano. They'll just drop the 8GB for sure, I'll bet.

Some form of wireless syncing, PLEASE APPLE!

Choice of colours? For the back (Ala 3G iPhone)

Yeah, it's likely, but I think they'll also lower the price of the Nano at the same time (September is the annual iPod refresh/new model date), meaning that a $199 8GB Touch isn't out of the question.

all i really want is external speakers. i LOVE playing my music wherever i am.

Personally, I hate any device with external speakers. I mean, who wants to listen to my music (or phone conversations, etc). The nextel phones are the worse.

Anyways, I really hope Apple doesn't offer a speaker for any of the iPods.

But that's my opinion only.

If there will be any sort of redesign I expect it to be comparable to the differences between the 1st & 2nd Gen iPod Nanos.

I hope anyone who said that they wanted 3G on an iPod Touch was joking, if not they'll be up for some major disapointments.

I don't care about 3G. If it has it, fine. I'd be content with the current Touch if the price falls down. The only feature I'd want is an FM tuner.

I want Bluetooth. It's a cheap chip to add, and Apple already has it in their PCs.

Add a camera, or a 3mp one. Then update the contacts list so we can put photos of our contacts directly into it from the camera. The camera should have an option to shoot photos only as big as the Screen's native resolution. I had an original Treo and you could get a cheap camera to plug into it. It made the contacts list wonderfully useful to see the entry's photo next to the name.

I dont notice that any of you wanting 64gig have noticed that a 64gig upgrade on the air is $999

So if they make a 64gig, it will be around a grand. and NO ONE (save really rich, and dumb people) will buy it
