While the iPhone 18 Pro models are still around eight months away, a leaker has shared some alleged details about the devices.

In a post on Chinese social media platform Weibo this week, the account Digital Chat Station said the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will have the same 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch display sizes as the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

Consistent with previous rumors, the leaker claimed that both of the models will have a breakthrough new feature: under-screen Face ID.

Last month, The Information also reported that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max would be equipped with under-screen Face ID, and it said the front camera would be moved to the top-left corner of the screen on the devices. As a result, the report said the devices would no longer have a pill-shaped cutout in the screen.

If under-screen Face ID does finally materialize this year, it is unclear if the iPhone 18 Pro models would have a Dynamic Island. Even if the TrueDepth sensor cutouts for Face ID are hidden under the screen, perhaps the Dynamic Island would still pop up at least briefly for things such as low battery alerts and Live Activities.

As for the standard iPhone 18 and the iPhone Air 2, the leaker expects those devices to have a Dynamic Island, and the same 6.3-inch and 6.5-inch display sizes as the equivalent previous-generation models, respectively.

All in all, here is what the leaker expects:
  • iPhone 18: 6.3-inch display (120Hz/LTPO) and Dynamic Island
  • iPhone Air 2: 6.5-inch display (120Hz/LTPO) and Dynamic Island
  • iPhone 18 Pro: 6.3-inch display (120Hz/LTPO) and under-screen Face ID
  • iPhone 18 Pro Max: 6.9-inch display (120Hz/LTPO) and under-screen Face ID
The display sizes above are rounded.

Apple is expected to release the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in the typical September timeframe this year, but rumors suggest the standard iPhone 18 and the iPhone Air 2 will not launch until around March 2027.

Digital Chat Station has more than three million followers on Weibo, and the account has accurately leaked some Apple information in the past. Of course, rumors do not always pan out, so nothing is official at this point.

Suprisingly, I'm now in Team Dynamic Island after initial doubts.

It has so many useful features "for me", from showing remaining cook times for my Meater probes, timer countdowns, Overcast info etc etc

I hope that there could be a toggle-able software Dynamic Island if we do go "full-screen" (minus the camera punch-out) to keep everybody happy.

Yes! The camera being off center would be a huge turn off for me
The camera button on the lock screen is off-center, the camera app icon is off-center on the home screen and in Control Center, the Camera Control button is off-center, the rear cameras are off-center… I’d say it’s the front camera that is the outlier here.

Actually, the front camera is already off-center within the Dynamic Island. And it’s not even consistent across models; the Air has it on the left, while other iPhones have it on the right. What are you doing Apple?! 🤪

if I’m understanding the article correctly, this latest leak supports under display Face ID but makes no mention of a new placement on the top left like a previous rumor.

I am still holding onto a tiny sliver of hope that Apple will not RUIN the progress of reducing the screen cutout by moving it off center. Like many, I’ve been waiting a long time for the original notch introduced in the iPhone X to finally go away. A pinhole selfie cam (like Android has enjoyed forever) is exactly what I want. IN THE CENTER of the display. So that the UI and Dynamic Island can work consistently across devices with and without the under display Face ID.

Hopefully Apple doesn’t over complicate this. Moving the pinhole to the left just to avoid looking like Android phones, that also USED to put it on the left before realizing that position was not as good as the center, is really really dumb.

I like the Dynamic Island though…
Dynamic Island would mostly be there for the functionality as the camera punch hole will still be there.

Most likely we'll have dynamic island notification such as Uber or delivery apps or Music etc and Dynamic Island would most likely be there when you take a selfie or you use FaceID.

It'll go away for full screen video, normal browsing and using apps.
