I think they were going to have it ready for Macworld until they realised not all want glossy.

They just released an iPod with no buttons. I think you're giving them far too much credit when you assume they won't release something stupid because the public doesn't want it.

they have had about 4-5 months to sort it out since the 17" unibody MBP launch/furor over the glossy only option. apple relented. they would have got a pretty good idea from their pro customers that only giving a glossy option was a dumba*s idea that would p*ss a lot of people off

Whatever the smallest machine is they can build without compromising the keyboard.

The 12" PowerBook was the perfect width (no wasted space like on the MacBook…), so the math behind aspect ratios suggests that they could make an 11.3" or so widescreen notebook the same width, not quite as deep, and it'd be perfectly sized.

i thought the 12 G4 PBs were awesome except for their chunky height proportions. shrink that into a < 1 inch and i'll pull out my credit card

I don't understand why people care so much about thickness, it doesn't have any real effect on usability. But whatever.

If they dropped an 11.3" matte display (1440x900 please) portable the size of a 12", with USB, FireWire, a quick-swappable battery (or fine: Seal the damned thing in, but I want a real-world 12 hours of battery if you're going to do it), and a 2.5" HDD, I'd even break my "No Rev A" rule and buy the first one I could get my hands on.*

* I'd reserve the right to renege if Apple did something immensely stupid, like make it not have a physical keyboard, or make it use an Atom or otherwise worthless processor, etc etc.

thinness = lighter (generally speaking) = less stress on body = less energy to carry around = less aches. And also easier to transport

if you travel a lot, it matters
