I ordered a fully maxed 16" MacBook Pro with M3 Max, which they said in the event "wouldn't be available until mid-November". When I ordered it showed shipping to arrive November 17-19th. Imagine my surprise to wake up this morning with tracking emails from both Apple and UPS that it's OUT FOR DELIVERY TODAY on 11/7. Excited... Interesting they were that far off (actually doing better) than forecasts, usually the "will arrive" dates are spot on. Not complaining, but just an FYI to anyone ordering that they are coming super early, even the fully maxed out ones.
We had the same shipping window and realized we had forgotten the educational discount and had to re-order. My wife is a grad student, so we used her account. Now it's 21st - 29th :( but we saved $500. Hopefully, our window gets pushed up, too! Enjoy it!

It sadly seems like Apple M3 is nerfed in different ways, so I decided to keep my solid old but gold M1 MacBook Air.
Also based on what I have read from performance tests, here is when it's worth considering buying a new Mac:

Apple M1 = Major performance boost, worth upgrading
Apple M2 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M3 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M4 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M5 = Major performance boost, worth upgrading
Apple M6 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M7 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M8 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M9 = Major performance boost, worth upgrading

Yes, that's every 4th Apple M version, so at maximum every 5 or 6 years. In other words,
save your money and time and spend it on your loved ones instead, no need to upgrade every year.

Also Apple should really stop with their obvious 2010 base model Mac specs, like 8 GB RAM/256 GB SSD in 2023 really Apple?
Why would M9 be a significant performance boost and not M10 of MX? I feel like that will be huge just because of the naming convention. Other than that, I'm not sure where you are getting your information, though I do agree that upgrading any tech annually, unless you're in a research lab or major video production studio, seems kinda pointless. But I don't think if you were to buy M4, that M5 would be a major upgrade other than maybe changes to the laptop body.
