I just ordered a 16” Pro Max in Silver and delivery is on the 7th November.
I tried choosing in store pick-up because I’ve had issues before with MacBook coming with small cosmetic defects, but for some reason there are no units available for pick-up in Silver in any of the Apple Stores in London. They just have the new Space Black colour available - probably to show it off?
Even though the Space Black colour looks awesome, I like seeing my MacBook clean (ie no fingerprints), and the Silver does a much better job in hiding them!
Happy Halloween 🎃 👻

If you bought a M2 MacBook Pro 9 months ago, I wouldn't feel too bad, but if you bought one after June, I would feel kinda scammed.
Thought so too, but then I checked the prices. Had to buy one in August because my previous MBP was completely dead. Closest configuration now (lowest configuration 16" Max) is now €430 more expensive.

I'm always excited to see new Macs released. These updates are a bit more expensive (inflation!) and there are some cool things like hardware ray tracing, but nothing that warrants an upgrade from my 14-inch M1 Max. The only thing that I might really slightly benefit from is the ray tracing, but for me it's not worth the hassle or upgrade cost. I'm still not using my M1 Max to capacity and my M1 Air even works well enough for a good portion of my workflow.

I'm looking forward to reading reviews and seeing how they perform, though!

The Notch = The instant NO DEAL
Seriously why does Apple love ruining their beautiful screens with a notch?
Agreed. The notch could be a small punch hole and increase the critical real-estate on the menu bar. But then it wouldn't be recognizable as an Apple, it would look too much like a PC. Sadly my 2014 Intel MBP wasn't going to make it the notchless finish line, so I finally upgraded. I hear from reviews "you get used to it."

I used the iPhone for years and never got used to the notch. Was going to get the iPhone 14 Pro to at least see if I could deal with the island, but when I went to the store they had a sale on the Galaxy S23 for $300 less. I decided to take a chance, and not having the notch was almost worth the change for that alone. Saves $300, no notch, under screen thumb sensor, and a lot more features. What I miss is the much better messages app on iPhone and using my iPhone for the Apple TV keyboard. Other than that I actually am liking the Samsung better. Since I could never get used to the iPhone notch I am guessing the same will be said for these laptops. Once my MacBook Pro 2016 goes out I will probably have to go with something windows based unless Apple changes the design. Who knows, maybe I will be pleasantly surprised like I was with the phone switch. The notch and base of 8GB of ram has just turned me off :(.

It sadly seems like Apple M3 is nerfed in different ways, so I decided to keep my solid old but gold M1 MacBook Air.
Also based on what I have read from performance tests, here is when it's worth considering buying a new Mac:

Apple M1 = Major performance boost, worth upgrading
Apple M2 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M3 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M4 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M5 = Major performance boost, worth upgrading
Apple M6 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M7 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M8 = Small performance boost, NOT worth upgrading
Apple M9 = Major performance boost, worth upgrading

Yes, that's every 4th Apple M version, so at maximum every 5 or 6 years. In other words,
save your money and time and spend it on your loved ones instead, no need to upgrade every year.

Also Apple should really stop with their obvious 2010 base model Mac specs, like 8 GB RAM/256 GB SSD in 2023 really Apple?

So you have inside information on the M4 through M9 processors? Spill the beans, we all want to know.

Well said. Until the notch is gone, and base RAM is at least 16GB, I am out on Apple. Agree about the SSD size as well, but I personally store most of my things on a NAS. So not as important to me, but understand others seeing this as an issue in 2023. Apple is basically forcing me to leave ☹️. Also, I am not a fan of the touch screen on laptops, but know many who are. They really need to have this feature as well in 2023. Even the most basic Windows laptop has it.

Just look at M1, M2, and M3. Compare all of them, then it's easy to see and predict the rest.
Sorry this is just laughably false. You have three data points. You absolutely cannot make any future predictions about the upcoming releases.

I just cancelled my order for the MBP M3. I have to upgrade before Apple will move away from the notch (it took 7 years to kill touchbar). But if i'm going to spend this much on a laptop with a feature I'm really unhappy about, I'm waiting for M3 Air. Once you add the appropriate 16gb RAM, the price jump is enough to wait six more months. Ugh. 🤦‍♂️

I just canceled my 14" MBP M3 Pro order and went with the 16" MBP M3 pro instead. I figured as long as I am treating myself why not go the extra mile with the bigger screen. Now, I have to wait until 11-22-30 for it to arrive. Hopefully, it will be sooner. I currently using the 15" M2 Air. I am anticipating lots of smiles with the bigger screen.

Upgrade every 5 or 6 years? That's a waste of money. Why do you think Apple nerfed M2 and now M3? The M1 Macs should be blazing fast for at least 99,99% of users for AT LEAST 10 YEARS.

Being that the performance increases are better than Intel’s year-over-year performance gains, I am really not sure why anyone is complaining. They average, what, 5-7% performance boosts and we see 15-20% increases with each M series update? That’s basically double consistently. Why is anyone complaining?

I ordered a tapped out M3 Max (except the SSD, I went with 2TB.) I’m coming from a 2011 MacBook Pro 17 inch. If it lasts as long as that one has, I’ll be ecstatic. My 17inch can barely pull up Chrome in 2023 and is stock on, Big Sur, I think? If not Monterey lol

My wife has an M1 MBP, I don’t even see or notice the notch 90% of the time. It’s in a spot that is under utilized and usually baron lol I thought I’d hate it just as much as you do.

iPad Pro is a great touch screen laptop. I love it.

I ordered a fully maxed 16" MacBook Pro with M3 Max, which they said in the event "wouldn't be available until mid-November". When I ordered it showed shipping to arrive November 17-19th. Imagine my surprise to wake up this morning with tracking emails from both Apple and UPS that it's OUT FOR DELIVERY TODAY on 11/7. Excited... Interesting they were that far off (actually doing better) than forecasts, usually the "will arrive" dates are spot on. Not complaining, but just an FYI to anyone ordering that they are coming super early, even the fully maxed out ones.
