Third ad, Mac genius acting eccentric advertising iPhoto photo books.

This is what I'm talking about. How do you sell Mac to a typical Windows user? Pretend you're selling a lollipop or an ice cream cone to a kindergartener. Point out the pretty colors, and tell them it's tasty.

It's great they are producing some post-Jobs propaganda now. The more they pump out the better. Now which event is next for this kind of thing? I'm ready for more!

I think the question is, would everyone be hating them if Steve was still here and did approve them?

I'm keeping an open mind. Steve was an amazing guy, but I have to believe that the Marketing team there still has a pretty good idea of what they are doing.

Good points. Steve Jobs told his biographer specifically that he did not want his successors to obsess about what he would have done the way Walt Disney's did. We don't know if Steve Jobs would have approved these ads. That's irrelevant. Tim Cook did. Let's judge them on their own merit.

It featured a Mac Genius helping people get things done on a plane before electronics must be turned off. I didn't really like it, the very idea of needing a genius to do that sort of thing is bad marketing.

Plus, a creative would help you with that. Still, it's great tht Apple is making Mac ads again.
I really liked it. It's playing on the idea that editing video on a PC, for the average consumer, is a giant nonsensical pain in the rear, while on a Mac, not only is the software built-in front and center, it's actually easy for laymen to use.

Edit: 9:26 CST. Taking about iPhoto photo books while a man is hurt. I really didn't like this one.
That's not at all what it was. The man's wife was having a baby, the Genius wanted to call an ambulance, but the man was just excited about how easy it would be to make iPhoto cards and books. Honestly, it was my favorite of the three.

For anyone who wants to watch the ads, they're currently available on Apple's main page.

I think they're great. Of course I love apple's usual product focused ads where it's just the device and narration, but these funny ads are more appealing to average consumers in my opinion.

In my opinion, Steve Jobs would've never let these ads air. Past ads have been witty and creative. These feel like Microsoft commercials.

I thought they were terrible. They felt very unpolished, and lacked the usual wit and humor of Apple ads. Then again, they've been batting .000 since those horrible Siri ads (John Malkovich in particular - the worst).

I've found that a "typical Window user" and a "typical Mac user" are extremely similar in terms of computer savviness. They're not morons that will go after the first shiny thing. And if we're talking about simplicity/pretty colors, there's a reason the so-simple-a-child-could-use-it OS X attracts the kids/elderly set so effectively.

yes... and the one's with samuel jackson were also cringeworthy.

apple is clearly still reeling in terms of how to cope with life after jobs.

There is a difference between just making a UI with simplicity/pretty colors vs. OS ease of use. We'll see what that difference looks like when Windows 8 is released and compared to OS X.
