Oh, yep, I had not mentioned resell value, that may change things a bit for people who are into that. And even if 8GB will still be enough in a few years as I believe... they'll surely sound very bad to a potential buyer if all devices will have moved to 16GB.
Yeah, a funny thing. I will definitely upgrade from my 2018 mini to a new mini at some point. I have 32gb of RAM in my 2018 mini because I opened it up and installed it. I don't need that much, but since I was doing the upgrade from 8gb, the work is the same to put in 32 than the 16gb that I could actually use. There is zero chance I'd pay Apple prices to take one of their Silicon CPUs to 32gb. So I will eventually be downgrading to 16gb (most likely) or 8gb (which is kind of what we are debating). It emotionally feels like "less" though obviously an M2 with 16gb will blow away my 2018 mini with 32gb; just no comparison between the two.

Weird thing, I can probably sell my 2018 mini with 32gb for nearly the same price as buying a M2 mini base model. At least I'm pretty confident I could get $400 for it.
