Looks like I’m keep my M2 Mini with 512GB of storage and 16GB of RAM. New Mac Mini is not worth the drastic price increase.
I am still on an Intel MB Air 2015…. was looking to upgrade to an M4 Mac mini but at £899, I will give it a miss. Will just get a refurbished M1 Mac Mini 16GB/512GB off eBay / CeX, should enough for me as (luckily) my computer needs are modest.

So very glad I bulked up on M4 series products fearing dumba$$'s tariffs back in late 24/early 25. One thing I grabbed was the M4 Mac mini with 24gb memory and 2tb ssd. Was going to cheap out and get base but thought "no, what if dumba$$ keeps dumba$$ing?" so got a step up. That cost me $1439. Today? $1919. Unreal. Looks like I'm holding onto everything M4 for a while. I know these price hikes aren't a direct result of dumba$$'s policies, the failure to regulate AI isn't helping.

Base model storage in the mini at 256GB is criminal in 2026 , especially at these prices.
And no, the reason isnt AI entirely. Its Apple pushing to keep it's absolutely massive margins.

Price Increases - The Mac mini now starts at $899, $300 over the original starting price of the M4 Mac mini when it launched in October 2024. Mac Studio pricing starts at $2,499, $500 more than the original price of the M4 Max model when it came out in March 2025.
Tim Crook just had to throw in a few more extortionate price increases in his last week as CEO. He just couldn’t help himself.

It is ridiculous, useless and as someone else said borderline criminal that they are delivering baseline models of a
Mac Studio with 512. ???
Mac Mini with 256. ????
Really? As in raising the prices is not enough that they need to keep this absurd unusable baseline RAMs?
Someone tell Apple we are on 2026 and Mac Mini/Studios are NOT phones... 🙁

Have you been living under a rock?

Go check the SSD and RAM prices

AI centers have made everything skyrocket

Strange that when the G4 Powermacs were unveiled eons ago, they were jaw droppers and everyone and their cat wanted one - yet today they are 100X slower than a Mac mini and the excitement for the mini is : nice upgrade — and cats aren’t meowing for them.
They came in a beautiful perspex plastic tower case from what I remember. I loved mine. Expensive at the time as well. Just over 2K I think I paid (UK)

We all have a value threshold for everything; for me, that threshold has now been hit. It's not about whether I can afford to pay; I can, but not at those prices.
If you “can” afford to pay, “but not at those prices”, that is just a roundabout way of saying you can’t afford to pay.

That doesn't make any sense: either you can afford it at those prices, or your can't. Either it has value for you at that price, or it doesn't. Perhaps what you meant was that the value to *you* of the new machine doesn't justify the price. Others might come to a different conclusion, either because they see great value compared to what they have now (in my case, a 2020 iMac which will soon be unable to run the latest OS), or they aren't as price sensitive (a nice boat to be in).

Don’t forget that today Apple released a new version of its Polishing Cloth on its online store. In the U.S., pricing is now set at $9, down from $19 for the previous version of the cloth.
Fortunately, the old "classic" version is still available on Amazon for those who want to collect the very best

Go price a workstation at Dell.
RAM and SSD's are stupidly expensive *everywhere*.
Dell is a terrible comparison as they've become the huge rip-off company (compare to Apple) on the PC side. Their junk is ridiculously priced and their good stuff is unaffordable.

I bought an ASUS Zenbook A16 ARM laptop with 48GB RAM and 1TB SSD and 3K 120Hz OLED for less than $1500 2 months ago. Companies are riding the profit wave on the back of the RAMpocalypse and their quarterly earnings are skyrocketing.

They ran out of 5400 RPM disks, so what did you expect them to do? 😉
