The router model is: F5D8633-4.

The hub is F5L009

Hope this is useful.

I've been Googling around the net to see if I could find anything to help you and the one thing I've run across multiple times is that Macs seem to have problems with Belkin routers. If this is the case, it may be the reason that the hub and devices aren't showing up for the Mac.

That's the thing though, the software is functioning & showing the devices, it's just that the router doesn't show the MBP in the client list & I can't access the devices.

Almost as if the switch isn't functioning:mad:

All drivers & firmware up to date, just tried 1483 bridge connection - lost all connections so back to PPPoA.

I was looking at the User Manual for your hub and saw this:

Sharing a USB printer
You can set the Network USB Hub Control Center to share
any USB printers on the network.

Note: You must install the printer driver on your computer
before enabling sharing.

So, I guess the obvious question here is have you installed Snow Leopard 10.6 drivers for your printers?

Hi,
all software & drivers are installed on each laptop/PC/Mac.

I spoke to one of the Apple tech gurus today, even he was lost.

So unless its a case of the drivers for the hub being in the incorrect location & the MBP not seeking them out.

Or there is no available hub for the Mac - buyers beware I think.

I'm even looking at replacing my printer now with a wireless version, strangely, in the shop I went to, the only wireless printer available was a HP version - priced at £199 plus the ink of course:mad:

Well Folks,

I think I may have found a solution, fingers crossed. I came across this post;

It was a long shot but I tried the SX Virtual Link...............Hey presto, connected & printing, for now.

Hopefully this has solved the problem, only taken me a week to sort out.

All I need to do now is convert my ext hdd back to FAT32 so I can access from mac.

Hope this helps someone else out.

Many thanks for all your help & efforts.

I'm so glad to hear that you got this to work. In my looking for answers, I ran across mentions of the SXUptp issue, but there either wasn't a resolution or there was some mention of a beta driver for 10.5, but since you're using 10.6 and you never mentioned SXUptp I didn't think it was the same issue. Plus I figured by now the beta driver wound have been the final release driver that you had. So are you using the Silex driver then?

I've always thought pretty well of Belkin, but after seeing how poorly they're supporting their Mac users I'm not thinking so highly of them.

Is your external hard drive for mixed use (PC/Mac) or only Mac? If Mac only, then I'd suggest Mac OS Extended (HFS+) for the format?

Hi,
I too thought that Belkin products were spot on but now I'm really not that convinced.

The drivers I tried from Belkin were the up to date versions, but they didn't work other than providing the interface.

Regarding the Sliex drivers, all I really done was leave the Belkin setup on the Mac then download the SX virtual link & hey presto it worked, maybe the virtual link is a more broader set of drivers if that makes sense.

Sadly, the ext hdd is for mixed use so FAT32 is probably the best option, the Mrs isn't convinced by Mac.........yet;) even though I will be replacing the desktop with an imac soon, real soon:D

Once the Mrs. sees how the Macs require less futzing (Belkin aside) and how much more trouble free they are I imagine she'll change her tune. Since I didn't say it before I'll say it now, welcome to Mac.

Hi,
I thought I'd resurrect this post again - more problems.

Even with SX Virtual Link I still can't connect to the peripherals via the hub.

I've been searching for a new hub today but haven't found any that will work with mac.

Really pulling my hair out on this one.

Dave

I can't say that I have any experience with these, but many Mac users seem to be happy with Apple's AirPort Extreme and AirPort Express. The Express will work with an existing WiFi router and allow you to connect a printer. The Extreme is a WiFi router and will allow you to connect a printer and a hard drive. If you're going to replace what you've got you might want to look at these. An alternative would be to put up an entirely new post here as for recommendations for hubs. Good Luck.

Hi,
none of the above would solve the problem as I would still need to get another hub as I have 2 x printer & 1 x hdd to connect.

I think I'll try a new thread to see what comes up.

Many thanks
Dave

Answer Found

I tried everything that was suggested to no avail but have now found the simple and complete answer.
PROBLEM: Belkin Network USB Hub F5L009 gives an error message when you instal the software if you have Snow Leopard "SXUPTP driver has not been installed".
SOLUTION:
1. Download "SX Virtual link for Mac" V3.3.0 (Date 11/13/2009) from http://www.silexamerica.com/support/software/svl.html
2. You will have downloaded a zip file called "sx-virtual_link_mac_330.zip"; unzipping this will give you a folder named "s-42a330".
3. Within that folder, navigate to SXVirtualLink>contained_packages>Driver>10.6 (the 10.6 refers to Snow Leopard OS); inside there is a file called "Silex_kext" dated 5/11/2009
4. Drag this file into the installation folder Utility>Connect>contained_packages; it will ask if you want to replace the older version of this file that exists there. Click "yes".

Now you can go through the normal installation process as per the manual, and hey presto, everything works magically!!

[If for some reason you don't have the installation disk to start with, or have a problem sticking it on your desktop, it is available at http://en-us-support.belkin.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/511/related/1/kw/network usb hub/r_id/166 as F5L009 Driver - Mac (version 1.5.0, OS compatibility : Mac OS 10.5; note there is no 10.6 compatible version - and THAT is the core of the problem with the installation disk in the first place).

QUESTION: I know nothing about what the hell I am doing, and yet managed to figure this out from Googling and reading - why can't the brains at Belkin have done the same - it is a trivial exercise for them to have made a version 1.6.0 compatible with Snow Leopard. I am seriously unimpressed!

Need Help with this Installation

Dave,

I want to use this to enable the Belkin Hub on my Mac using Snow Leopard, but am not clear on the exact install steps. I've downloaded the file from Silex, opened the zip file and see the 10.6 version. Here's where the confusion lies, I view the package contents but do not see a file called "Silex_kext".

And if I did find the file it is not clear which folder to drag it into, the directions say "Drag this file into the installation folder Utility>Connect>contained_packages". Exactly where is the installation folder?

Can you clarify the install process that you used?

Thanks!
Charles
