So this forum has been teeming with people just waiting for a refresh. How many of us have actually laid down the cash for what came out today?

I ordered the baseline model with overnight shipping ;)

I'm getting the default configeration, but with a GeForce 8800 GT. Going to place the order in the next hour or so. :)

I ordered
With the following configuration:

* Processor 065-7536 Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeo
* Memory 065-7175 2GB (2x1GB)
* Graphics Card 065-7537 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
* Hard Drive Bay1 065-7189 320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb
* Optical Drive 065-7203 One 16x SuperDrive
* Wireless Option 065-7206 AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
* Mouse from AOS 065-7693 APPLE MIGHTY MOUSE
* Mac OS Language for AOS 065-7707 WIRED KYBRD/MAC OS X

HOWEVER with a devlivery date of Feb 15th I am questioning running to an Apple store and buying the standard model (plus airport card installed there) and then purchasing the 8800gt when available.

Both my computers went down on Sat and waiting 5 weeks might be worth the 150$ the difference in 2600 vs 8800.

Any suggestions?

Dave

I just ordered the following:

Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB (Two dual-link DVI)
Apple Mighty Mouse
Apple Keyboard (English) + Mac OS X
AirPort Extreme card (Wi-Fi)
One 16x SuperDrive
2GB (2 x 1GB)
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
Accessory kit

Now get to play 'what monitor should I get' (hoping that there's an upgrade in the ACD line next week)

Hi,
I was planning to do the same thing as I don´t want to wait 3-5 weeks for my MP and I need to sell my PC Hardware right now as prices start to drop for the hardware I currently own.
The 2600xt is a 100 USD VGA Card. Apple wants 160 on top for the 8800gt which is -all things considered- a good deal. The question is: How much will the aftermarket 8800gt kit cost? 260? Somehow, I wouldn´t think so.
Is it possible to drop a pc 8800gt in the MacPro once the card becomes available? Right now, 8800gts are in extemely low supply all over Europe.

Thanks,
ceres

I just ordered a Raptor to be the main hard drive.

I figure it'll take a while for RAM prices to drop to something reasonable, so I better get any additional speed that I can elsewhere.

Well I have broken down and ordered one, spec as follows:-

Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
2GB (2x1GB)
2xATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR3
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
One 16x SuperDrive
AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard & Mac OS

I couldnt be bothered to wait the 5 weeks for the Nvidia card so am hoping that the 2 ATI cards should power my 30" and 20" monitors with ease, if not they shall be put on ebay and the Nvidia 8800 ordered!

I shall be ordering more hard drives and memory for it, there is no way I am paying Apple prices for those.

Cant wait to get it!

Should be a tad quicker than my Powermac G5 dual 2.7!!

I could have bought the Quad today, and used it with my current setup but I'm gonna keep on saving to get the Octo 3.2 with an 8800 and a 30" ACD :D

Probably be time for an ever newer Mac pro by the time I've got it all together :p

Edit: Who am I kidding - not thinking straight clearly: not really going to notice that much real world difference between Octo 2.8 and Octo 3.2, right? With the enormous price difference, I can pick up the 8800 (should I need it) at a later date, and an ACD too not long after!

Think I've convinced myself to pick up the base Octo 2.8 .... awesome :)

Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeo
2GB (2x1GB) 4GB more at 3rd party
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb + 500GB internal + 500GB external for TimeMachine
One 16x SuperDrive
AIRPORT EXTREME-INT
APPLE MIGHTY MOUSE
WIRED KEYBD/MAC OS X-FIN.
Country Kit-INT

:cool:

3-5 weeks waiting, I´m going crazy! :cool:

Two 3.2GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
2GB (2x1GB)
2xATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR3
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
One 16x SuperDrive
AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse
Apple Wireless Keyboard & Mac OS

and a Dell™ UltraSharp™ 3007WFP-HC* 30-inch widescreen LCD flat panel monitor, since ACD's suck and I can't be bothered to wait for an update.

I'm looking at the lower end MP - however i'm going to wait until MW, just in case there is something there that might suit me better. (midi tower?) - unlikly i know, but i've waited 500 days, i can wait another 7.

I got the standard config, only added an airport wireless card.

Bought a 750GB hard drive from a 3rd party, and looking to get some 3rd party RAM soon.

Today is a great day for me. Been waiting a long time, and tomorrow is my birthday! Couldn't ask for anything more. :D

Can someone highlight the "precise" Penryns being used?

X5482 12MB 3.20 GHz 1600 MHz DP 150W
X5472 12MB 3.00 GHz 1600 MHz DP 120W
X5450 12MB 3.00 GHz 1333 MHz DP 120W
E5472 12MB 3.00 GHz 1600 MHz DP 80W
E5462 12MB 2.80 GHz 1600 MHz DP 80W
E5450 12MB 3.00 GHz 1333 MHz DP 80W

?

Should be:

X5482 12MB 3.20 GHz 1600 MHz DP 150W
E5472 12MB 3.00 GHz 1600 MHz DP 80W
E5462 12MB 2.80 GHz 1600 MHz DP 80W

I am guessing due to cost, power and cooling they will not use the X5472, but I could be wrong and it might be shipping instead of the E5472.

Once they get into reviewer's hands, we will know for sure.

What do you think? Should I pull the trigger? :p
