Looks like I can stop borrowing my wife's iMac CoreDuo, finally shut down my XP box, and make the transition to Mac Nirvana.

It's going to be hell transferring all my Lightroom libraries, various music, video, and other assorted software over to the new Monster Mac, but it'll be worth it. Now I've got to find some decent 3rd party RAM (4 X 2GB) that'll let me run VMware Fusion, CS3, iTunes, FireFox, Lightroom, and a few other apps simultaneously!

OWC, CanadaRAM, others - you guys listening???

:D

Regarding the memory, I want it ASAP and my preferred memory supplier (Crucial) didn't have compatible modules yet.

But the significant reason is I put a high value on my time so it's worth the extra money to me.

Ok, as long as you consider 3-5 weeks as ASAP, because that's how long you'll be waiting b/c of the 8800GT.

Heh, exactly... by which time he's more likely to be able to place a much cheaper RAM order. $1500 upgrade through Apple. That's like 2/3 of the way to a Quad Mac pro. Wow.

Hi all! Been waiting since late October (glad it wasn't June like some of you) and I finally bought a Mac Pro. Been doing CS3 and an finally going to be doing professional work on a professional computer!! Not my old powerbook G4, even though it's been a faithful servant.

1.) 1 Terabyte drive instead of 320 gig.

I hope to buy more RAM later from Crucial.com, and add a second 1 terabyte hard drive.

So here's my setup:

Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeo
2GB (2x1GB)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb
One 16x SuperDrive
APPLE WIRELESS MIGHTY MOUSE
WIRELESS KEYBD/ OS X-CAN.
Country Kit

Obviously got applecare with it. Grand total? 3900$ (canadian!). I also have a nice 24 inches screen I got on christmas to go along with it. 2 more HDDs and ram are also on the way! :D

2x 2.8GHz quad core
2GB RAM
500GB hard drive
8800GT 512MB
Airport Express card

I'm glad it comes with the new keyboard, the old one felt like typing onto a stuck of margarine. I do think Apple should not include a mouse with the Mac Pro though, because most people just throw/give the (un)mighty mouse away ;)

I'm so happy, this thing is going to be a beast! :D

I just found out that it will ship on or before feb 13th.... damn

Ordered today with a developers discount.

* Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
* 2GB (2 x 1GB)
* Mac Pro RAID Card
* 320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s

* One 16x SuperDrive
* AirPort Extreme card (Wi-Fi)
* Apple Mighty Mouse
* Apple Keyboard (English) + Mac OS X
Total Cost: $3,179.00

Ugh.. I can't believe I just spent $3,179.00 on a computer... boy I miss the cheap days of building my own. Oh well, apple is always worth it.!

I'm pretty boring...I just ordered the base configuration (2.8GHz 8-core) except included the wireless-N card, wireless mouse, and iWork 08.

I'm looking at getting my memory and multiple hard drives from OWC...4GB (2x2GB) kit and a pair of 750GBs, all for $650... not bad considering how much I'd have to pay with Apple.

So long Beige G3, it's been a good 7 years...

The delay is 3-5 weeks on the 8800GT... I don't know if I should do it or not.

Yea, this is a hard one. Will the 3-5 weeks hold true? Or will it change to 2-4 days or something in a couple days? If it really is a 3 week delay, I might just wait. But I want this thing now. So I don't know what I am gonna do yet. I think either way I'm gonna wait until after MacWorld to order it. Just in case Blu/Ray is announced or something. haha.

So. Excited. *dies*

The delay is 3-5 weeks on the 8800GT... I don't know if I should do it or not.

I had the same issue deciding, but since I use a dumb PC right now, I can't stand one more possible minute with this computer.

I chose to buy the standard model -Two 2.8Ghz quad-cores, but with just the basic graphics, I will update it later. Although, I did buy it with student discount. Regular price: $2899.00 CDN, with EDU Discount: $2699.00. That $200 save buys me a 8800 GPU!

Cant wait

Mac Pro:
One 16x SuperDrive
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
2GB (2 x 1GB)
Apple Keyboard (English) + Mac OS X
Accessory kit
One 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (quad-core)
Apple Mighty Mouse
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB (Two dual-link DVI)

I'm thinking about ordering this, but I'm waiting until Macworld is over, just incase some crazy laptop comes out that might take the place of this setup. I also want more info about new ACD's!

Does anyone know what kind of ram the new pro takes?

I just ordered

Octo 2.8GHz with the 8800 GT, Wi-Fi and one Seperdrive. Everything else is stock, then I'll throw some more RAM in there (to being it up to 8GB) and a pair of 750GB HDDs.

Has anyone thrown in a pair of raptors into the Mac Pro and ran them in Raid 0?

Nice, here's my first Mac! :D

==================

I also just purchased a keyboard cover from kbcovers.com, and tomorrow will go ahead and get the 2 x 2Ghz RAM chips from OWC for $200. Gonna also check CompUSA and see if the Applecare prices have dropped any more (last I checked, it was 20% off.)

I can't believe I just spent over $1500 on a computer, I've never done that before :eek:

But to FINALLY get away from Windows and all of its hassles, as well as to have a kickass system for the next 5+ years... :D

-Bryan

How so cheap?

That seems to be a special discount as the edu discount is a little more than that. Heck, I figured people would be asking how mine was so cheap! I am getting the stock Mac Pro with 8800GT and wireless peripherals, plus a 30" ACD for $4300!

ADC discount is brilliant.

Mac Pro stock: $2239
8800GT upgrade: $160
Wireless MM: $16
Wireless KB: $24
30" ACD: $1619

Now if I could only skate the tax!

Ordered the standard config today and it's already shipped and due to land tomorrow. Sweet :)

'Been waiting since June for this puppy to hit - I'll flesh it out later.

Guess I'd better change my sig soon.
