As most of the others have said, it's a small price to pay for the *option* to have wifi in the case that the Mac isn't reasonably close enough to the router to be able to plug it in.

I'll certainly have mine plugged in whenever possible, but on the off chance in the future....I'm still connected.

Easily connecting with our laptop old G4 Powerbook is one reason.

Having the capability should we get more wireless accessories is worthwhile, too.

Some company even released a memory card (? Secure Digital, maybe?) for digital cameras that's wireless & can download pics to your computer while staying in your camera, if memory serves.

I'm to cheap to buy it as yet, but hey, MacPros don't come with media card readers and it could be handy if fast enough.

Since my desktop is a wired machine it is nice to be able to use it to create a local wireless network.
This is what I do with the wifi in my MP. Works great. Though I still have to use a wired connection for large file transfers to my PBG4 which only has 802.11b wireless but has gigabit ethernet.

Yup.

Airport ordered as a 'just in case'.

I don't intend using it, it will be switched off. It doesn't cost much, and I'm getting a CTO for the better graphics card. Now that Bluetooth is included I wouldn't have bothered with a CTO if it wasn't for the graphics upgrade.
