Pirating apps has never been safe, but it's a problem that fixes itself. Ain't no free lunch anywhere, not even on the Internet.

For pirates to get served? You bet they do.

It raises questions.
1. Will people associate the app with malware and avoid even legit copies?
2. If the developer knows that modified versions are being distributed and do nothing will they loose registered IP associated with the app because they didn't defend it?

Lol pirated LittleSnitch is doing its own snitching , classic.

Feel bad for the devs that probably have to deal with support headaches for reasons that aren't in their control or fault .

I think this is one reason why Apple has moved to more secure OS techniques like those deployed in macOS Big Sur.

my uncle is a Director with a new BMW what feels like every other year and he is too cheap paying 99 cent for iCloud storage and then loves to complain about his iPhone always being full. He also rips songs from YouTube instead of just getting Spotify. Drives me nuts. People are especially entitled when it comes to digital goods that you can’t touch

what you say to him when his phone died and loses everything

Not surprised it targets the Keychain primarily, I wonder if the spyware has the ability to call home and show usernames and passwords. Pretty scary as a lot of people have their banking information saved on their Keychain.

I'm one of those paranoid people who never puts credit card or banking passwords in the Keychain.
I trust Apple, but still, only so much.

As far as pirating, the only thing I've ever done is downloading old games that you cannot even buy anymore even if you wanted to.

As before, chose your bank wisely, a bank which uses Usernames and Passwords only is not worth your money. (Pun intended).

While more ransomware on Macs is not welcome pirates get what pirates get.
In any other walk of life, anybody who tries to blackmail somebody else would be throughly condemned by everybody, regardless of what they were doing. But you're saying it's OK to be blackmailed if your software didn't come from official channels.

The only details of mine that never get written down or saved anywhere are banking logins and the passwords to my password managers and 2FA app.

There's a difference between getting software from a different vendor (not what's happening here) and stealing software (what is happening here). If a thief got blackmailed by another criminal, I don't think anyone would be all that concerned.

I'm actually shocked at the number of people who are OK with blackmailers because the blackmailed 'deserved it'.

I think I count six people on here in total.

It's an inherent risk in pirating. If people want to steal software, they should at the very least be prepared for there to be consequences. I'm not saying they deserve it, but they'd be dumb not to expect it.

No I don't believe I said that at all, can you find where I did?

What I specifically said was "pirates get what pirates get" which means that if you are going to pirate software, WHICH IS THEFT, then you set yourself up for the possibility that the software has some "unwanted features" added. That being said I have no sympathy for a thief that gets blackmailed, I do however have sympathy for individuals and entire towns that fall victim to ransomware because they clicked on the wrong link.
