Hello everyone, I recently got a stock 2.4 Aluminum MacBook and I'm really enjoying it. I have noticed a few things that differ from my previous Windows laptop though, and while they don't bother me and very well could be normal, I just wanted to make sure everything was okay before 14 days pass.

First of all, when the laptop is on it vibrates noticeably. I know this is a normal thing but my old 15 inch Windows laptop didn't seem to be as obvious. With the MacBook, no one not using the machine will notice anything but from putting your hand on anywhere on the body you can feel it. If you close the lid, you can feel that it's on by placing your hand on top before the machine goes to sleep. I guess that's really the only way I can describe it, I might have to go to an Apple store to compare it to another model to be sure.

Secondly, when waking up from sleep, the disk drive makes some noise, even though there is no disk inserted. Again, it doesn't really bother me and it seems to work alright, but I've never noticed it on my friend's plastic MacBooks and just want to know if it's normal.

Thanks for all your help.

the vibrating im not sure, usually mine doesn't vibrate unless im reading large files off the disk so it could be different for everyone. but it's not vibrating all the time or anything

the second, yes thats normal. i don't have an explanation why but i could guess maybe the lens moves positions for some reason. who knows? lol

absolutely normal for the waking from sleep thing..
I BARELY feel the vibration in mine tho.. how severe is yours?
I think my vibrating is just the fans

The disk drive noise is completely normal. However the vibrating doesn't sound right. I have a two year old macbook and have had two different hard disks in it. Neither one has caused the machine to make the slightest vibration or even noise.

Well, the first one doesn't sound normal...I would probably have that checked or something.

The second one however, is perfectly normal, because when you put the computer to sleep, the drive turns off, and when you open up the lid, it turns back on, hence the noise it makes.

Hope that helps

The vibrating is not normal. Mine does not do that, nor does the Al MacBook of my other co-workers.

The drive noise is normal. Its just a "berbep" noise that the drive does to turn itself on. Or so I assume it is how it works.
