Barely. Price per performance it is a lot more expensive. Stock the new air is a dual core i3 vs quad core i5.

You have an interesting definition of barely. MBP is $300 more (30%) and 128GB storage.

Also iirc HT is back across the line in the 10th Gen.

Someone said it would be too slow as their 2019 MBP can't handle Safari, email and Word at the same time. I'm using a base level late-2013 MBP and all that stuff works fine. Something's up with their machine.

Someone else implied that the Air is hardly cheaper than the 13" MBP. Err, really? Here, when I spec up the cheapest MBP to a 512 SSD, it costs almost CHF 500 more than the Air.

I was thinking about upgrading to the latest 16" MBP but it was (a) expensive, (b) over-powered for what I need and (c) has a touchbar and no function keys. I'm going to have to give some serious thought to dropping down in screensize as otherwise the Air is perfect.

The reason I need to upgrade is that my screen is broken and the repair isn't worth it. I currently use an HDMI cable to connect to my TV, so if I do find the Air screen too small I'm already used to the soluton :) Well, except I'll need a Thunderbird to HDMI dongle/cable I suppose.

This is a really solid update, I think the MacBook Air (2020) might bring the Air back to being Apple's #1 recommended laptop. Fixed keyboard, usable base model (finally with 256GB), reasonable starting price ($999), nice display and TouchID.

Having quad-core and 16GB RAM even makes it an option for those that need a little more performance.

Good news, at least now 256 is the base storage!
For a similar price you can get the new Air with 256 storage and 16GB of RAM and the 13'' MBP with 128GB and only 8GB of RAM. The CPU is different, but you pay the same for half the ram and the storage, the 13'' MBP need to be refreshed because it makes little sense now. Also, new keyboard on the Air.

APart from generally lower performance, cooling system was flawed on previous gen... I hope they fixed it...

Why does this thing still not have wifi 6? iPhone 11 line has it, newest iPad Pro has it and intel’s 10th gen chipset has it built in. Wtf?

It’s a nice machine otherwise but I sure as heck would not buy a machine with an outdated wifi standard. I paid good money for my wifi 6 router and want it put to use.

Did I make a mistake by ordering the Quad i5 processor upgrade ? Mine ships 6th - 15th April.

I want to use Garageband.
No. You made the right decision.

I have a dual core 2019, 16gb ram 500 ssd. I can run the majority of my programs (Safari, Word, Excel, Google Sheets, Citrix software, ETC) without it skipping a beat, I can even load 4k videos from producers no problem on it. But if you are looking to edit anything audio or video related, you are going to want a quad core processor.

Damn I bought the 2019 back in December. Why is apple updating Macs less than a year old? Its infuriating.

Oh well I guess this one will be thicker and heavier which would put me off to be fair.

Incredibly great update. Really a new MBA design. I was skeptical that Apple would make such a huge change so soon after launching the last MBA, but it looks real now. I was wrong. Oh well, my 2019 has been flawless. I ll hold on to it for now and watch the reviews on this new one. Like I said, looks great.

I wonder if the aggressive pricing is reflective of the new economic realities of the Corona Virus?

Nice updates all the way around. Thankfully they updated the base storage. It was getting embarrassing.

Great to see Bluetooth 5.0.

Does anybody know why it appears to still have Wifi 5 and not Wifi 6? I though Wifi 6 was built-in on Intel 10th gen processors?

It does have WiFI ax

This is probably the best laptop I could have imagined.

- Quad Core
- Retina Display
- (Presumably) amazing battery life, all in a thin and light design.
- Best of all - No stupid Touch Bar!

My 2018 is still the best laptop I've had, but I want this upgrade. :)

Had the same thought to replace my 2015 13" MacBook Pro which had to have a new battery fitted a month ago. But then I realised that as I will not be travelling for work for a month or two or three... I will wait to see what the new MacBook pro looks like.

Hats off to Apple they're really making up for a grim last ~3 years for the Mac recently, they've really been on the right foot since releasing the 16" Pro :)

Only thing preventing me from pulling the trigger is no display p3/HDR support. It’s otherwise a perfect computer for me especially with the new(old) keyboard, and is very tempting to finally upgrade from my 2013 13” pro. Maybe next year I’ll get the one I want.

Quite a good update. Makes the MacBook Air a good deal overall again. I could see myself trying one of these out at some point.

I can only assume that iPhone 9 or SE2 is to be revealed in a few days. Hopefully something for the iMac as well.
