Apple won't make the MBAir too wonderful as that could divert sales from the MBPro line lowest models. There is a reason why the MBAirs are limited to 2TB SSDs, sub 32GB of memory, non-Nano modest displays and just two USB-C ports (not v5).
Well, yeah, of course. Ford won't make the Ranger too wonderful as that could divert sales from the F150. That's how it works.

So glad there would be no external design changes. The tapering was such an inefficient package, difficult to hold, and prone to sliding on flat surfaces. It was such a typical Ive-ism of form before function rather than a marrying of the two.
I vastly prefer the design of my M1 Air to the new generic and plain looking models. They went the easy route and like with iPhone 12, it lost its personality. I don’t recognize the three problems you mention either.

M4, 32GB max, Wi-Fi 6E, three display support (2e+internal), 2TB SSD max, notch, 2 TB4 ports, MagSafe and audio jack.

Nano display is a 50/50 at best, but I’m leaning towards no because of target market. No advancements in the LED LCD. Same sizes and resolutions. No quantum dot anything.

It’s will be a decent if uneventful upgrade. Anyone looking for chassis changes isn’t paying attention to Apple’s industrial design cycle and is suffering from wish fulfillment syndrome.

Now that the 16e is out, it will probably drop on Tuesday.

But what's the target market? Only people who use a computer indoors?

The target market for the MacBook Air is people who are only going to spend so much money on a computer. Hence why the Air doesn’t offer 4TB and 8TB upgrades for the Air. Apple segments their computers and the Air is distinctly in the consumer segment as the target market.

The iPad Pro and the MacBook Pro have nano texture options, the iPad Air and MacBook Air don’t. Apple could be ready to move the nano texture options down market, but my money says it’s a feature withhold for the Pro market.

That said, I would probably get a nano texture screen on an Air if they offered it. Again, I’m 50/50, but my gut says no.

"The new MacBook Air models will likely be equipped with three Thunderbolt 4 ports, whereas the current models have two Thunderbolt 3 ports."

This would be huge if true, but I feel like it's a typo? An extra USB-C port is a differentiator between the Air & Pro, and allows for charging from either side, which is important to me.

Has anyone else reported this?

It won't have a high refresh rate screen. But what I am curious about, is if they give the nano texture display option. I hope it does.
