I mean, to be fair, a really slow boot speed and slow ssd performance does point to a failing ssd. Could just be that this particular machine shouldn’t have passed QC.
It has an SSD that is faster than a 2019 MBP? It may not be the fastest SSD in the world but it is fine for general use and will NOT make the machine boot up at over a minute.'It is super slow. Even my 2018 MBP has a SSD that is twice as fast than the base M2 MBA.
He just needs to upgrade to the 512 GB SSD.
Yeah if this was a real thread then I would agree but someone who times boot up speed and says their 2010 MBA is faster than a M2 MBA is just trying to stir up the pot. No way this is real. But it the extreme slight chance that it is real I would agree it has a defect.I mean, to be fair, a really slow boot speed and slow ssd performance does point to a failing ssd. You guys really have an axe to grind with the M2 MBA it is really an interesting phenomenon that I haven't seen with any other Apple laptop.
No you should do what most people on these forums suggest. Just forget the "air" and upgrade to the "Pro"! Get a 14" M1 MBP for $1599!! Then all of your problems will be solved.Yeah I'll return it tomorrow and get M1 MBA instead.
Yes I can argue with it. You are suggesting that because his SSD is slower the boot time is over a minute??Dude, he needs to upgrade to the 512 GB SSD to have fast loading times.
You cannot argue against that.
But sure go ahead, go tell this guy to exchange his base M2 MBA for an other base M2 MBA, only to suffer the same slow boot up times.
No, base storage model really isn’t that bad. The boot times of your XPS are not comparable because windows cheats at shutdown/startup.Yeah base storage model is bad. Sorry, I make mistake because I bought wrong model.
Are you trolling? I can’t even tell.Dont listen to everyone else here Ben Men, personally i would go with a 2018 retina Macbook Air,
Its gonna be familiar to you, have a better screen than what you have and itll be super fast!!
Clearly the M2 MBA is not faulty but just super slow!!
I am simply giving the solution to the OP, which is buying the M2 MBA with 512 GB SSD, which has much faster loading times.Yes I can argue with it. You are suggesting that because his SSD is slower the boot time is over a minute??
I can understand that people are not happy with slower SSD speeds on the base model but something tells me if this person actually bought the base model M2 MBA which I kind of doubt that they would have already known going in what the SSD speeds are and would have bought the larger capacity SSD.
I mean who times device boot up speeds but doesn't know the SSD speed before they buy. This entire thread is a joke and people defending the post and justifying how bad the base model M2 MBA just want a place to complain but your complaints don't have any merit in the real world.
Well I turn mine off and boot up is in the single digits in seconds way under 10 seconds......NOT a minute and six seconds but I don't have the base model so I can't honestly say but let's just play the game for second. The SSD in base is supposedly half the read speeds so even though that doesn't equate into double the boot up time lets just play along that would be like 10-13 seconds or so not a minute and six seconds so no matter how you slice it this is not a real thread unless and this is a huge stretch he did actually get a faulty device. But instead of replace it with a new M2 MBA the OP wants an M1 MBA.Are you trolling? I can’t even tell.
The screen on a 2018 mba will not beat the m2 mba.
And you keep saying the SSD is unusable when thousands of people will get important work done on the base model MBA.
I think you’re trolling. Or maybe you’ve never used the base model mba and you just like complaining about it online without realizing that it is powerful enough for so many consumers.
@Ben Men doesn’t need a MBP for $1600 if he bought the base model mba.
Who even turns off their Mac?
Complaining? I am not complaining. You keep ignoring facts like a minute and six seconds boot time which is in no way realistic. You are the one who is complaining.
I am simply giving the solution to the OP, which is buying the M2 MBA with 512 GB SSD, which has much faster loading times.
The joke is, how come you are complaining about someone who is helping the OP with a real solution?
1:06 min is rather odd. Could you perhaps make a video of this with your phone and post it here?My 2010 Air is faster than New M2 about 10 seconds boot time.
My records (from boot to desktop)
- 2010 Air - 23 seconds
- 2015 Air - 16 seconds
- XPS 17 - 6 seconds
- M2 Air - 1.06 mins

A real solution for the OP since money seems to be a concern and he only wants a base model is to get the base Model M1 MBA and be done with it. But to say the reason the OP wants to return his M2 MBA is because it has such a slow boot up time and is slow in general goes against what most reviewers and actual owners of the base model M2 MBA say in real life.
No one actually times boot up speeds like that if they are an average user so the entire thread I am not taking seriously.
But I never once complained and I am not defending anything nor do I care in any way what this person does or gets.
In the end he should get whatever makes him happy. I don't think he needs help figuring it out based on his comments. He is not asking for help but rather stating absurd stats and saying what he is going to do. No questions have been asked??
YOU are giving a real solution? Are you f*** kidding me??? 😆I am simply giving the solution to the OP, which is buying the M2 MBA with 512 GB SSD, which has much faster loading times.

Floppy drive or spinning hard drive are the first thing I thought about. LolYOU are giving a real solution? Are you f*** kidding me??? 😆
You think the SSD in the base MacBook Air M2 would lead to an over 1 minute boot up time? What do you think this is, a floppy drive? 😆😆😆
Yup! Seems suspicious to me.Joined today, and posting about non-specific issue without providing further details. Hmm...
That makes zero sense unless you just came here to stir the pot, which sounds like what's actually happening hereI cannot make sure that new laptop faulty again, so I will replace with M1 MacBook Air instead.
Yes. If we are talking about getting base storage, the M1 would be a better deal than Harry Potter and the Half Speed Drive.I cannot make sure that new laptop faulty again, so I will replace with M1 MacBook Air instead.

its pretty sad at this point it still goes on, but I hear youEasy game of 'spot the people who have never tried the base model' in this thread.
Probably starts with the OP.
Well, unfortunately this appears on the increase in the MR fora.its pretty sad at this point it still goes on, but I hear you
Very much trolling the OP and some of these other posters in here who just want to bash for no reason.(notice they never reply to people who troll them back lol)Are you trolling? I can’t even tell.
