My 2015 took over a minute to log safari yesterday. I suspect it’s a failing SSD. That’s a pretty common symptom, extremely slow load times. I don’t think all 2015s are awful, or that I need to go back to my 2010 17inch. 🤷‍♂️

ANNOUNCE: I do not to return or replace my new laptop, I perform a factory reset and it can run faster.

My latest records after reset.
- 2010 Air - 23 seconds
- 2015 Air - 16 seconds
- XPS 17 - 6 seconds
- M2 Air - 12 seconds

From a minute and 6 seconds down to 12 seconds that is pretty amazing. But it is still not much faster than your 2015 air and I really find that hard to believe. I get 5-7 seconds on boot on average and I highly doubt my specs make any difference at all?

You seem like such a meticulous user and so educated. I just wonder why you bought the base model m2 air in the first place? You must have known about how slow the SSD speeds are. Money must be a consideration?

So why not spend $1300 on a used base model M1 MBP 14"?

Or a new M1 air with more ram and same ssd size. Would have cost the same new?

I can buy one right now direct from Apple store.

Seems like you would be much happier with that then the super slow and horrible M2 MBA right?

Your posts smell awfully fishy my friend. All of them.

Anyway I hope you enjoy your new M2 MBA and have a great day/night wherever you are.

I asked because I want to change my new laptop.
No one else is seeing that kind of slowness in their M2 Air. You should not be seeing that kind of slowness. Something is wrong with the specific piece of hardware in your hands. If you were to take it back to Apple and get them to replace it with a different M2 Air you should then have a very fast computer as you had originally expected.

This is not a general problem with all M2 Airs. You just need yours replaced.

Still slower than a $500 Windows laptop:

M1 MBA: 15 secs boot to login, 21 secs with password login to desktop (fingerprint login on bootup not supported on MacOS)

Lenovo Yoga 6: 7 secs boot to login, 9 secs with fingerprint login to desktop

Enjoy your Yoga 6. Why even come on here if the M2 MBA is so bad?

Also we all know windows doesn't actually shut down it goes into hibernation which would be more comparable to closing the laptop lid on a Mac and then opening it when you are ready.

Try adjusting the settings in windows to where it actually shuts down and try the same test.

But of course the M2 MBA is slow as molasses 🙃🤪

Closing the lid puts it to sleep then waking it is instantaneous and not 7 secs. Nice try though.

Thats definitely not always the case. We have a 2021 blade 15 with the 10th gen intel i7 and it easily takes 4-6 seconds to wake from sleep when opening the lid. Nice try though

I don't think you understand what I am saying and are purposely avoiding the fact that if you were to completely shut down windows instead of put it hibernation it would take a lot longer than 7 seconds to boot. On top of that Windows is not the most stable after putting it in sleep unlike Unix based systems.

Anyway enjoy your $500 windows laptop. I will enjoy what I have.

Sounds like a user problem. None of my laptops take that long to wake from sleep. Get someone to help check your close lid power options since it can be set for sleep, hibernate or power off.

If we're measuring a computer by how fast it boots, you best all kneel in the presence of my 48K ZX Spectrum which 'boots to a desktop'* in approximately 1.5 seconds from total shutdown.

We'll gloss-over the minor irrelevances that an M2 computer is approximately 10 million times more powerful. It's all obviously about the boot-speed.

How is his machine faulty when every base M2 MBA has a slow ass SSD?

You guys telling him his machine is faulty is total utter non-sense. Only Apple can fix it if they release a revision with 2 NAND modules.

Do you believe the 2010 MacBook Air has a faster SSD than the M2 256 SSD?

I'm pretty sure the 2010 MacBook Air is slower especially the 128Gb version.

My 2010 Air is faster than New M2 about 10 seconds boot time.
My records (from boot to desktop)
- 2010 Air - 23 seconds
- 2015 Air - 16 seconds
- XPS 17 - 6 seconds
- M2 Air - 1.06 mins

You should go with the Dell machine. It can probably restart more than 8000 times per day.
The M2 Air seems to be only capable of a little over 1000 times a day.

Think of the productivity you'll achieve by restarting 8000 times a day!

All my older Intel MacBook Pro's have a faster SSD than the base M2 MBA. So I wouldn't be surprised.

There are even SSD's that do 11GB/s in 2022, which is almost 10 times faster than the M2 MBA SSD.
