The new MacBook Air models will likely be equipped with three Thunderbolt 4 ports, whereas the current models have two Thunderbolt 3 ports.
It's good news that the upcoming MacBook Air models will have Thunderbolt 4. But the non-Pro iPhone 16 only has USB 2.0, which is 80 times slower than Thunderbolt 4. So, for example, if an iPhone 16 backup to a Mac took 1 hour and 20 minutes, it would've only taken 1 minute if the iPhone 16 had Thunderbolt 4.

1 hour and 20 minutes versus 1 minute. That is how clueless Tim Cook is. To anyone interested in more information on this topic, see the thread in the link below:

Tim is not clueless, Apple and Co. know exactly what the main objective is, frustrate consumers to purchase iCloud+ for backups or wireless to a Mac. Later the consumer model iPhone will advertise USB 3 data transfer speeds as a bullet point to upgrade.

Most consumers don’t connect to a Mac to backup but fall for the iCloud+ plan with “you storage is full” messages. It might be worth it to some but for most there are better deals available.

Trump won't be able to pull that off.
This is just talk. No such action can be taken, at least not on a lot of things.
If he does, it will serve companies outside of the USA, which defeats this idea of protectionism.

I think he will get exactly what he asks for, whatever it is. The house and the senate have his back 100%, and will back whatever he wants for fear fear of retaliation.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman recently said the new MacBook Air models will be announced "earlier" than some other devices rumored to launch this spring, such as a new iPhone SE. This likely means the new MacBook Air models will be announced in a press release on the Apple Newsroom website at some point from January through March
That is false from what I heard though from industrial rumors. Apple will likely have the MacBook Air as part of the spring keynote announcement, in addition to Mac Studio and Mac Pro announcement they will likely do at same time. Only one I see that will be press release only is the iPad Air which will be essentially the same with M3 processor.

I know reviewers are all about the specs; but a M4 MBA with 10 Cores is pretty amazing. Low lift video work has come so far even on the more "Basic" machines.

Please nano-texture!!!!
MBA is Apple's low end laptop. My guess is budget conscious buyers of the low end are generally unwilling to pay a premium to get nano texture on their lower end laptop displays. It seems unlikely that Apple would deal with all the supply/inventory issues of adding nano choice to the MBA displays if most buyers at the low end are unlikely to pay +$150 anyway. But who knows? Maybe special-order-only makes the math work for Apple.

I don't even know why they charge for it. Other computer companies have offered either as option for years, without a price difference.

Apple's display glass allegedly is etched at the nanometer level. The etching claims to scatter incoming light while preserving contrast and color accuracy. Having tested it, I say it works.

Please advise which other companies have offered that exact option for years, without a price difference. Slapping a matte film on a display does not qualify.

Apple also doesn’t want to cannibalize MBP sales. Those who really want nano texture and other premium features will buy a MBP.

Whoah, stop the presses.

“The new models will likely support up to two external displays, even when the lid is open. …”.

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 most likely, what are expert guesses this next model could actually power two monitors with its lid open?

Lets do the following this year on the pro...

240hz
FaceID
M5 Extreme Processor
High Level Gaming Graphics Processor
Multi-colored backlit keyboard
OLED display w/nano-texture option.
Mechanical keyboard
Backlit Trackpad
2K resolution front facing camera
Touch screen

For the air...

Make it thinner, like the old days when it first came out.
OLED display.
M5 chip.
Face ID

But we all know Apple won't be that aggressive in improving their laptops, because they can simply milk out incremental upgrades year after year. The above is truly a pro machine.

Don't think there will be a nano texture option. Upgraded camera is likely with the new M4 chip. I am expecting it to be launched in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

Apple should consider doing alternate year chip upgrades for its lineup.

2024 - M4/M4P/M4M - iPad Pro/MBP/iMac/MacMini

2025 - M5/M5P/M5M/M5U - MBA/MacStudio/MacPro

2026 - M4/M4P/M4M - iPad Pro/MBP/iMac/MacMini

2027 - M5/M5P/M5M/M5U - MBA/MacStudio/MacPro

Etc… Since these chips are upgraded annually and the performance between annually generations is marginal, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to annually upgrade every hardware line as there is little time for market appreciation and quick value depreciation.

Consider this as a customer why would I purchase a 2024 M4 MBP only to be replaced in 2025 with a M5 MBP. The amount lost on depreciation is a large loss in less than a year while great for new customers who may also consider a 2023 M3 chip.
If you’re going to stretch each generation out to two years then AS will start falling behind. The rest of the industry isn’t going to slow down development.

Apple needs the yearly cycle to stay out in front.

3 TB4 ports likely?
Nano-texture possible?

I do wonder what reasoning leads to these remarks. Apple is a dyed-in-the-wool pro at moving useful features to the most expensive machines, calling it 'pro'.

SDXC? That's a 'pro' feature since 2018.
Nano-texture? It was only recently added to entire Macbook Pro line.
3 TB4 ports? Again, only recently added to entire Macbook pro line.

and make the macbook pro weigh like 6 kilograms?

like just no

On the bright side, it might mean US consumers get cheaper soybeans and corn if China slaps retaliatory tariffs on goods they import from the US. Yum!

Having grown up on a farm that plants nothing but hundreds of acres of corn/soybeans, I'm good! 😆

I could see the M4 MBA start with an 8/8 core for the base configuration, while having the 10/10 core in the higher spec/price models, as with the M4 iMac
