OK, I've made this same post several times and this will be the last: white bezels do not look white when you're looking at the screen. Here's a photo of an M1 iMac in a normally lit room, screen around 2/3 brightness. I've turned the exposure up a bit, even, so the brightness of the mic and the bezel look how they look in the room. See how much brighter the screen is than the bezel? Does the bezel look glaringly white to you? No, it doesn't. (But I guess if you want to turn the screen off and fume about the white bezels against the black display, you still could do that.)

Sorry, but you can’t change someone’s preferences by explaining your own!

Apple always gimps their products, very annoying.

GREAT NEW PRODUCT - always missing the pro feature
I mean... isn't that the point... its NOT a pro product. This is how they differentiate the levels. If you want pro features you get a pro product.

Putting the Pro remark to one side, I do see what Nautilus means about the prospect of gimping the MacBook Air- it sounds like they're simply going to make it look worse/more childish than this year's model- handicapping it. Much in the same way they gave a divisive look to the 24" iMac, and handicapped that in a few ways such as no Ethernet port unless you buy a more expensive model(which still remains important in places like schools, where the devices are popular), in aims of driving a number of iMac buyers that just need a "good enough" and adult looking/professional looking product to buy something more expensive.

Correct. Kuo might be misinterpreting “binned” as modified. I’m guessing one of two things from this…

1. After these new colorful models come out, Apple will keep a single binned model of the current Air around at a reduced price.

2. The lowest end model of these new colorful “Airs” will have a binned M1 and the mid model will have a binned M2, and the ”high end” model will have the “full” M2.

If the screens are getting slightly larger it brings to mind the move from the 'classic' 9.7" iPad to the 10.2" iPad and subsequent SoC refreshes which suggest either a form factor change or SoC (CPU) change for the iPad over the years - but not both in the same generation.

There's been constant rumours about a shift to use a 10.5" or 10.8" screen for the classic iPad but instead the 9th generation iPad now uses an A13 CPU after moving up from A10 and A12 CPUs while retaining the same 10.2" form factor. The precursor to the 7th generation iPad was the 6th generation model, which used the same A10 CPU but in the 'classic' 9.7" form factor.

You would have imagined that an M2 based on the 2021 iPhone A15 CPU would be along in due course. Perhaps we might not see that until the A16 CPU drops. We actually don't know if the pandemic has had an impact on Apple's CPU roadmap which could see an M2 (as in the CPU that succeeds the M1) based on the A15 from last year or the forthcoming A16 CPU this year.

And given that the iPad Air has only just got the M1 CPU I think it would be conceivable to see Apple give us a MacBook model with 13.6" display and new form factor but with the same M1 SoC (perhaps not offering the 7 core GPU as there would be more pixels to push on a slightly bigger display).

Could the new non wedge shaped design be the new MacBook that replaces the Air? Remember that the marketing team will keep the names a total secret until released.

Timing wise apple could release an M1 product by WWDC and it wouldn't be a major issue for most people - as with the late arrival of M1 on the iPad Air - as the M2 has not launched yet.

I get what you're saying, and I like white bezels, but having a color matched light behind the iMac is not a normally lit room.

It's new actually. They never used white bezels on aluminium unibody products up until M1 iMac.

Here's a good explanation (time stamped)

When in the video does he explain why black bezels are best? I doubt he would since their laptops had silver bezels. Then again, he also said horizontal optical drives are better in the iMac right until they made them vertical in the iMac.

They used white bezels in their aluminum unibody iPads and iPhones.

They don't built PRO products in an attractive form factor. There is no reason why the air couldn't have the faster refresh rate, it should be an option even if they charge for it..

That's subjective. I happen to like the new MBPs.
They're fine. Boxier than the Air, plus added ugliness via the black keyboard surround and notch, but I would argue that the iPhone Pro is better looking than any other iPhones.
