And thank God no retina nonsense :p

Looks really nice, and also cheaper!

I am torn between the Air and the Pro... I am leaning towards Air, but I can't get into the Apple Store website to look at them.

Wait ... hold on ... let's see if I can ...

So the macbook airs have *smaller* screens than the new pro, but somehow they can't get the retina display onto the air ?

That's not how it works.

The smaller the screen, the easier it is to make the retina display, and the longer they have had to tool the production for it.

It is incorrect to refresh/relaunch/reissue the macbook air, in 2012, in ANY FASHION without retina display.

In fact, it is so clueless and mind boggling that we MUST ASSUME these are either omissions, or errors in the press release(s).

The other alternative - that someone, or some group of people at apple are *so amazingly incompetent* as to reissue the air without retina, is difficult to believe.

I think that's their way of not cannibalizing the market. They'll come out with airs with Retina next time... or the time after that. They want to squeeze $$$ out of the gotta have it crowd...

Retina display means more powerful graphics card which means more heat.

Note that that Retina Macbook Pro has a dedicated NVidia GPU to drive the display and two fans in it.

I suspect they're still solving the heat problem and don't want a repeat of the Gen 1 overheating problem.

I *am* the gotta have it crowd.

I gotta have a macbook air with a modern display on it. As far as I'm concerned, there is no air update today. It's completely irrelevant without a retina display. No reason at all to upgrade any current air, and I hope they sell *ZERO* of them.

The current ipad has more pixels in its display than the "new" (not new, or interesting in any way) macbook air.

And the rest of us in an everlasting holding pattern...

LOL, you're funny! (You're joking right?)

Imagine that retina display would suck the battery right out of the Air's at this stage of the game. Someday, but not yet.
