"What's the problem on planes - "

I don't have a problem, it's just when I fold down my neighbor's tray table and set my iPad on it. Some people are just not accommodating on airplanes these days.

Duet works faster than the "other" iPad screen app which used BT and WIFI. They, the ones other than Duet, just came up with a new program using the cable to improve speed.

The best part of Duet is the screen on the iPad is actually brighter and clearer than the 11" MBA. It has something to do with the resolution and stuff between the two. I'm expecting the 12" rMB to fix or improve this.

BTW results of using Duet with an 11" 2014 MBA:

riPad Mini - Great clear display with no lag or speed difference between Mac and itself.

iPad 2 - Not so good a looking screen (still slightly better than MBA). The speed is passable with only a minor bit of "jiggle" when moving the mouse pointer.

iPad 3 (retina) - Great screen and it seemed as though it was nice and smooth.

iPad Air2 - Perfect on the go combination. Looks better than the MBA and zero jiggle or stutter.

Once installed it is a seamless operation.

Thanks very much - further question: the early versions of Duet had high CPU usage. Has it toned down, or if not, does it present any issues for you?

I haven't found a high CPU use with the current Duet. But, are you really asking about battery power? If you are there is one thing that happens when the iPad is plugged into the USB, it starts charging. The iPad will drain your battery faster if the charger is not hooked up to the MBA.

Is that a downside? I don't think so, just expected.

Thanks, no, meant CPU usage - I think the early versions ran the CPU pretty intensively. Hadn't thought about the charging issue - and agree with your assessment on that one. Thank you for the feedback. It'd be interesting to use a retina iPad via Duet with the rMB.

Watching flash content on the iPad with duet in retina mode will probably use quite a bit of cpu. Just normal use should only be 20% in retina mode.

OK here's the results:

With 2014 11" MBA 1.4 ghz i5 4 gig memory

Firefox playing "The Piano Guys Video" in std. view about 11% user CPU use.

With Duet and the Firefox view running on an iPad Air2 the user CPU use went up to an average of about 26%. Yes Duet was the biggest user of the CPU, about twice that of Firefox. My guess is because it is driving more hardware, USB port, directly, rendering the screen to the iPad and all Firefox is doing is a view and audio.

Yes more CPU use but not maxed out in any form. I'd be curious to see how a monitor would fair.

That adapter which is aimed at devices with a separate charger port is useless for the Macbook because one can't charge the Macbook at the same time. HDMI is not limited to 1080p. So either Apple artificially crippled their multiport adapter (unlikely, why would Apple artificially reduce the functionality of one of their devices ;-p) or there's a problem routing high res display signal, USB, and charger simultaneously through USB-C. If that is the case, this Macbook is nothing but a toy for me. I can't plug it into my monitor but need to purchase two extra Macs (one for work, one for home) and then need to sync any files I work on through the cloud. I wouldn't do that.

I am fairly certain there will be a nice docking station on the market soon after the MacBook launch that will let you charge and have a display port output. Just wait and see.

I sure hope so. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Henge said in the blog that they're working on a docking station for the rMB. They're taking comments on features that people want, so if you care about how they set it up, you might want to tell them your preferences in the comments.
