Mine freezes for about 2 seconds just about everytime I'm finished entering in something in a text field. Hopefully Apple will release a bug fix for this.

Okay, I have the *exact same problem*. The mouse freeze occurs most ofter right after I've typed out some text.

The question is: is this a hardware or software issue? The latter I can live with...a hardware issue, I cannot.

this trackpad is acting up and driving me crazy. It stutters.

Yup, i get that stuttering effect too. I thought maybe i was having a hard time getting used to the new style trackpad. Glad to know i'm not as clumsy as i thought.

One thought is amusing though, and that is that if this is a hardware thing with a new concept glass trackpad that has static problems

then these notebooks are a sorry lot :D

let's keep our fingers crossed. :)

I have the 2 second freeze thing too. I thought it was just some kind of inputting latency that I might be able to fix by messing around in the trackpad settings, but if others are getting it too, seemingly not.

Does anyone think they'll be able to fix this? I write a lot and it seems to happen almost every time I finish writing to go back and change something.

I am also running into this problem. It doesn't occur all the time, but it occurs enough for me to notice. Let's hope Apple fixes this soon.

Mine has randomly fixed itself... Weird. It used to do it all the time after typing, now it doesn't really do it at all. Yay!

I am sorry to say that but this "crippling disease" gets worse with time.

My MacbookPro is about 1 month old (bought at the end of October). I immediately noticed the 2-second freeze problem, but it was very rare and ignorable.

However, now...

When the keyboard and trackpad freeze, they never come back unless I reboot it. By the way, this happened more than 10 times yesterday!

Plugging in a USB mouse gives control via the mouse, not the trackpad, but at least I can save my work before restarting.

I have tried several things, but it still happens. I plan to return this laptop within a couple of days unless someone from Apple acknowledges this problem and assures us that they are working on it.

:(

I own the MacBook, and I have the same issue: my whole computer freezes.

It happened for a day or two, then stopped, then it happened three times today. It requires a reboot.

I also have the issue with the temporarily frozen track pad. This is a known issue which Apple is working on a patch for.

I do worry about the random freezing. This is a critical work computer, which I need to be work properly...

Design flaw

I've owned macs all my life and have to say I think they've got a really big problem on their hands here. I'm on my second MacBook in 2 weeks - the first one's screen was broken and now i'm sending my second one back and simply getting a refund.

The glass trackpad is fundamentally flawed. If you google this problem you'll see that hundreds of other people (indeed possibly everyone who has taken delivery of the new MacBook) are having the same problems:

- Freezing of cursor, trackpad doesn't do anything
- Clicking produces a sound but no real mouse click
- Drag lock sometimes engaged for no reason

It's an infuriating situation and I'm gutted as just sold my old MacBook which to be honest worked fine!

I just got done using my buddies black MacBook and I will take the current glass trackpad over the old one any day. Everything about it is so much better except for the freezing problem, which for me, went away completely. Just thought I would share that with you. The new one is 10X better than the old one.

My MacBook Pro is experiencing a similar issue that seems to be a common problem. It's not freezing up, but it often fails to register a click. Apple's own support forum has people complaining about this but many said that Apple says it's a non-issue.

So I emailed Steve Jobs yesterday and a few hours later, I got the following response:

"Fix is coming soon.

Sent from my iPhone."

I imagine that this includes MacBook issues as well.

let's hope so, the problem is extremely annoying on an otherwise great trackpad

This has been happening to me as well, and I think I figured out what the problem is. If you type and part of your palm is resting on the corner or part of the trackpad, it will lock up. If you keep your palms lifted, it won't.

Hopefully they can fix it with software.

I applied the fix, and it completely resolved the problem. I'm now convinced that the problem was when people would rest their palms on the track pad while typing.

The people who experienced "nothing, dada" are obsessed with having a perfect MacBook and just happen to type with their wrists off of the laptop. :p

But yes, it appears to have fixed the problem.

so... how long does this trackpad firmware update take, anyway? mine's going on 5 minutes probably...

EDIT: Ok, so after 20 min, I held the pwr button down til it turned off, then turned it back on and.... everything came back up and it said the firmware was up to date. Restarting again to be sure. Wow, I'm not sure I can explain how scary that was being that the computer is only a few hours old :)
