New Macbook - no Firewire!

Apple has recently updated the "Macbook white" to pretty much the same specs as the aluminum macbook.
It has the NVIDIA graphics-chip now. And still a FireWire 400 plug.
Looks like they kept a "back door" open for those of us who want to edit video on a macbook.

My only question: Can I run Final Cut Studio 2 on it?
I just need it as a backup for my Mac Pro on the go. I don´t care if it´s slow as long as it does the most basic capturing and editing.

That has been mentioned before and it is just a device that lets you transmit FW signal over ethernet wireing

The FW standard allows this, and since Apple does FW networking to a point those could work -- but like mentioned before, you still need a FW port to use it.

For those times you need to install a FW drive 50-100 ft away.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! The first one is a port convertor for some sort of cable tester / probe.

The second one is just a FW / USB hub. To use the FW part, you still have to connect a FW cable to it from your computer.

Sunbaked and RedTomato, thanks for the respectful response. Just try to help and learn. Would it be possible to download from a FW device to say a Mac Mini and then transfer the files via wireless network to the non-FW MB?

Yes, that's what everyone's having to do.

1. Ethernet would be faster than wifi.
2. Or get a USB external drive, attach it to the Mini, save the camera file on that, then plug it into the MB.
3. Or capture the tapes to a firewire-equipped PC, save the files there and transfer to the MB. (not sure what save format you need to use.)
