I plugged my mac to adapter and it's showing thunder bolt symbol. It does not charge. And it's not turning ON as well. Could someone help me please. I waited for it to charge entire night as well but no luck

Look at the magsafe charging connector is it orange, green or flashing orange or green? The LED.
You didn’t even look at the photo. It is MacBook Pro 16 so it is obvious there is not MagSafe.
Have you tried smc reset?

You may need to do an SMC reset for the battery (Google it) but considering you say the product is new I would suggest taking it back to where you bought it.

I tried SMC reset but no luck. I am in a remote place where mac showroom or service centre is not accessible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried charging it for 6 hrs now, charged from other port also. Still no luck.

What did you do for the SMC reset? Please explain the process you followed.

Do you have access to a different charger just to check that is not the problem? I doubt it but better to be sure.

Remove charger and hold power button for 10 seconds
Connected charger
Then tried turning on again

Didn't work

Then hold left control + left option + right shift for seven seconds then hold power button and waited for 7 seconds holding all 4 buttons

Then again tried turning on

Didn't work

Tried option+ command + P + R for few seconds

Approx 15 seconds.. no luck again

If I try any of the above with charger connected I see the above screen which I pasted with red battery line for a second and again black screen.

If I try removing charger, no response

I dont have access to other charger..
Assuming that thunder bolt symbol is appearing so my charger might be working

Hardware SMC reset (and I hope it's the same on later Macs and I have not got it wrong) requires you to take off the bottom case, disconnect the battery cable then reconnect it. This requires a degree of computer know how and the correct tools to take out the screws on the bottom case. I do really think you would be better off taking the laptop to the place you purchased it.

just because you see the lightning Doesn’t mean the charger is actually putting out enough current to charge. You should try another wire and another charger to see if they work. If you can’t, not more advice we can give you.

Are you sure you are using the right charger / it is not broken?
I know this sounds stupid but this looks like what @cmaier said.
I never had this happen on a Mac but seen it on my iPad a few times when I was trying to use some random USB charger.
If this is not the case then I would definitely get it replaced.

Maybe the power supply itself is suspect. You say you are in a remote area in a country we don't know. Sure you are getting the right voltage where you are?

Volts x Amps = Watts. Are you getting enough juice from the power supply where you are?

@steve1960 My power supply is around 185 V. I tried to test output from Mac adapter, it shows 4.2 V and 1.5 Amps -> I did it by connecting mac type c charger to my mobile through Ampere measuring app, I don't know it is the correct way to test.

I am out of my depth now sorry. Power supply seems a little low if you are not in the USA (110v) should be 220v / 240v? Still I think the charger should still work but charge the battery slower (help here?).

However if you did a successful test using the charger it does seem like a Mac problem.

I don't see an easy way out of this if you cannot do a hardware SMC reset or go back to the store where you bought the Mac.

The charger is able to charge my mobile phone but no response from MAC. It always shows a red verticle 1 line in the battery as the above picture.

1 finding, not sure if this helpful..When I open my mac It will not light up the keyboard. I let the mac to charge for the entire night, When I opened it in the morning I could see the keyboard backlit turned on for 2 seconds and went off, and again same story repeats.

Are you charging through an original Apple power supply and cable or are you using something else?

Also when you got it new (unused/unopened I assume?) - did it ever boot up out of the box?

This is the first time I am booting Mac. I never opened it and I am using Original Apple Adapter and cable that came with Mac

Ok, I suppose there is a chance that the power outlet itself might cause issues. Just to rule that out I'd try another one on a different line, or at a friend's place, in the office, etc.

Apart from that the most likely explanation to me is that your laptop is shot and needs to be exchanged by Apple. If you received it without a charge then it may have an issue with the battery. Pretty sure every single Apple device I ever bought was able to boot out of the box on a basic charge.

The MBP uses USB C Power Delivery. The computer will negotiate with the power supply about voltade an current levels. I believe the MBP normal charge at 20V. If PD negotiating fails the charger will revert to safe USB A levels which is what you are seeing. These levels will not charge the MBP.

The power supply is global it works from 110 to 240V.

As others have said try another power supply.

Hi Gourav, I had brought new adapter but no luck ,Mac is faulty. So I sent it to Mac service centre

Hi Dinesh!

I have the same problem, my macbook 16 is brand new and the battery is not responding to charging.

What was the solution to your problem ? How long was in service ?

Thank you!
