Nah, I don't care about how it looks ... to me a MacBook just a tool, and I'm going to add my own dents and scratches anyway. Now I'm glad I have a replacement with a working keyboard (my previous three MacBooks all had malfunctioning butterfly keyboards), and I don't want to wait another two weeks.

I have attached a photo. It's tiny, so I don't care. Just the fact that there is a dent at all made me sceptical.

Unacceptable in a product sold as new. My 2015 has a similar dent but it's used and I paid about 40% of new for it. You'll lose something for it when you resell it.

Sounds like the OP is keeping the MacBook? Probably a sensible decision since requesting a replacement would mean a wait of - at least a week or two - given current production rates. I don't think that the configuration was mentioned, so if it is a non-standard build, then that would impact delivery.

I can understand accepting the MacBook if I was anxious to start using it and the problem was very minor.

One of the reasons I have a main system and a backup system. At the moment I have two backup systems. It provides the flexibility to survive if one of them has a problem.

Good point. I haven't thought of my system in that way, but until recently it was only for personal use. With teleworking, I'm now dependent upon my system for actually being able to do my job, which is obviously quite different. As a result, I will need to start thinking of my system differently, although the extent to which this will continue (for my own particular work situation) is completely unknowable.

Hello there. Did not want to create another thread about nearly the same question and problem: Today I got my new machine MBP 2020 13" i5 10th/1TB/32GB. Everything's fine... besides a minor flaw with the rubbing-banding around the screen in the upper right corner.

It does not bother me and I can not see it until I get really close to the corner. You guys might think this is a problem and could be worsened over time?

Cheers

Returned items are reportedly sometimes resold as new and then do not ship from China. I assume that this only happens for unopened boxes, but you never know.
When I worked at the store, they were never sold as new. We had people open them in the store and claim they saw a dead pixel that we could not see. Nothing else wrong. It was sent back to apple and probably ended up on the refurb site.

Just a quick follow up this topic: I ordered my MacBook Pro with a non-standard keyboard, so what might have happened is that they opened a box with a new MBP that has a standard keyboard, swapped the keyboard with the custom one that I selected, and re-packaged the MBP. During that assembly, it was slightly damaged. That's just a guess but that would be a plausible explanation...

I doubt very much that they do it that way. The products are packaged up and labeled with the configuration inside, and they're not going to mess with that.

I would replace it.
I buy mostly refurbished and they show zero signs of use so buying new with anything less than perfect shape is a no no.
