Sadly, I think Apple really has lost its way. A company this wealthy and formerly innovative should be able to put out a line of products and more software in a more cohesive way on a much more regular basis. And they appear to be obstinate about the future integration of mobile and desktop that their competitors are surely working on. Touch Bar is a nice and useful iteration, but should have been a sidenote in a much larger presentation with a line of computers with a new Mac Pro, Mac Mini, iMac and new Magic Keyboard 3 with Touch Bar and Touch ID. The MacBook Pros are nice but only evolutionary. I'm a long time Mac fan and own many Apple products and will continue to buy, but I'm not very impressed and certainly not by Apple's usual standards.

Perfect.

I almost sold my MBP a few months ago with the intention of buying a new one this autumn, but I'm so glad I didn't because the UK prices have gone up by 50% for the base model. And that's without the touch bar..

Love the Touch Bar!

Wish there was a MacBook Pro+ that had some extra thickness with the ports I use everyday and another 5 hours more battery life. I would gladly give up some weight savings and thickness savings for that.

The HUGE touch pad is interesting... will have to play with it and try typing around it to really know how I feel.

Seems to be some confusion about the Macbook Air. The 11" seems to be discontinued, but the 13" lives on at the $999 price point.

With a Radeon 460, the 15" is $CA3600, very expensive.

Even with the lowest dGPU offering, its still $3,400...

$400+ to go from 512GB to 1TB... no wonder Apple want a captive audience for upgrades.

Okay, that was all pretty well in line with what I was expecting, but I've got to wonder; Nice, minor, iterative changes that could have probably been announced better in a press release make me think Apple totally just wasted an event, and I'm feeling a little gypped.

I buy every generation of MacBook Pro and iMac. Obviously, that's never going to change since I have no intention to move to Windows or re-buy all of my software. Today was challenging.

  • I lose key ports that I use and will have to buy dongles & a docking hub to plug this into my work environment
  • The battery life didn't increase despite the more efficient CPU architecture since the last refresh
  • RAM limit is still pretty low considering the power. My iMac has 32GB of RAM and unofficially supports 64
  • The jump from 512GB SSD (which I have now) to 1TB still seems too expensive
  • I'll never use the touch-bar I think outside of adjusting brightness or volume
  • I like that the trackpad is bigger as long as apple eliminates false taps while I'm typing.
  • I will greatly miss MagSafe like a LOT
  • My late 2013 MBP is a 2.6Ghz Core i7 (older architecture). The new model maxes at 2.9Ghz. I was actually expecting something close to what I have in my 5K iMac (4Ghz). guess Intel doesn't have those chips ready yet at the watts Apple needs them to be
  • I'm going to really miss the glowing Apple logo. Thinness wins I guess.
  • I'm not a fan of the retina MacBook Keyboard. i hope this improved keyboard is significantly better
  • These models are $400 more expensive than what they're replacing. Why? The OLED touch bar?
  • The performance looks great and is the only reason I feel a need to upgrade.
I plug my MacBook Pro in and work on external peripherals all day so all of the display, touch bar and thinness improvements don't impact me at all. It is faster so that's a very good thing.
