If you didn't thing Apple were exploitative before - they are now charging £19 for an extended plug lead for the charger. I imagine this costs about 50p or less to manufacture. Unbelievable!
Or at least sell it at cost price to those who are purchasing a new machine

Indeed.
A full specced NEW 15" MBP is now AUD$6649 compared to the previous fully specced model being AUD$4919.
That is an insane jump! Even Applecare has been increased by $30 for the new model.
So you will pay $1730 more here in Australia and then still have to think about buying the cheapest adaptor starting at $29 before you can get the new machine to start working with your old gear or even $35! for a new USB-c to lightning cable because you are no longer able to plug in your iphone or ipad.
What the actual ****?
Way to go Apple. If you're trying to alienate your loyal customers, you have just succeeded.
I don't know who could justify spending that much money on a new laptop?
And let's not even get into how easy it is to add emojis with the new touchbar.
This is a pro machine, only children type with emojis....

exchange rate + gst

Apple (like every other importer) sets an exchange rate on a regular basis which they stick to for a period of time. The rate they probably set is what (in my opinion) they expect the worst rate to be for the period they are setting the rate for. It looks to me like they chose to set it to somewhere between 71 and 72 cents per dollar.

Current rate is pretty **** for Australians: 1 USD = 1.30 AUD approximately.
So my 1TB config in the US is $3500, convert to AUD and add GST and you're looking at approximately $5009 AUD. if you then go to 2TB - add another $800 US (or $1145 AUD inc. GST) and you are looking at $6154.

I look forward to tapping on the Touch Bar to step over a line in the debugger.

And I suppose our GST might have something to do with it.
I lived in Europe for a long time and local tax there was %21! I often joked that it was cheaper for me to fly to New York, buy my Mac and come back and still have it cheaper than in Europe!
Here's hoping the prices will drop. The current asking price is way over what I had expected and it's just too much for me right now even though I REALLY need to upgrade to get going on the projects I've been holding off from doing until I get a new machine.
Aaarrrggghhhh

I've seen a video where the cable was hidden in the tray under the new non touch bar MBP. Is that the case?
