Are those Transcend ones the best? I've seen cheaper ones.

They seem to be fairly well reviewed. I think Nifty may be a bit cheaper, and will probably do the job.

MiniDrive Nifty Pro Micro SD Card Adaptor up to 200GB Storage Expansion for MacBook Pro 13" and 15" (Non-Retina) and Pre-Late 2013 Pro 15" Retina, Silver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017HOBQDQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_uBzWybTEVRHSZ

Not sure if this one works OK with a late 2013 though, since it only states Pre

Had a look at that. So you need to buy an SD card as well?

I use the Nify + a Samsung PRO MLC microSD card and recently started using the Transcend. I've used Transcend MLC products extensively for quite a few years.

The benefit with the Transcend, as SDColorado noted, is that it is MLC NAND and available in a 256GB flavor. With the Nifty drive, if you want MLC, you are still limited to 128GB IIRC (as the 256GB models are all TLC, which tends to have inferior performance, inferior durability, and inferior longevity.)

Most of the really cheap ones use TLC NAND, most of which I would personally avoid (with a few exceptions), as the write speeds can be a small fraction of what a MLC card is. When paired with the Nifty, the Samsung PRO reads and writes at around 95 MB/s, where as the Transcend has similar read speeds and slightly slower write speeds.

I don't know what to do, I saved up for an iMac, and wasted a year waiting .. I am not super happy with the amount of mula they want for that mpb from 2016..
If they don't release an iMac soon we have to resort to stupid alternatives just to get stuff done.

This guy is badly misinformed. The cost of the new 15" with a 512 GB SSD is $100 more than the comparably equipped model from 2015. That's for a new touch bar, Touch ID, better screen better speakers, faster SSD, better dGPU, and--contrary to what he claims--better battery life for what people typically use the battery for. There's no need to update the software to stop the unwanted clicking on the trackpad. You've been able to turn off tap to click from the start. He tests performance using software optimized for Windows, not a program like FCPX that will smoke the Windows alternatives for the same tasks. And there's probably something wrong with his sample if it really got to 103 C. That's the only report I've seen of it getting that hot.

Yeah, there is a lot of added value there for the $100, even if you aren't excited about some of it, like the touch bar, it represents a nice bang for the buck for the extra $$$

Yes, with the Transcend, you will trade a little slower write speed for longer life and reliability. It is a worthwhile trade off in the end, I believe.

I currently have a 15" MacBook Pro (Late 2013) that I bought March 2015. I'm now thinking of buying the new MacBook Pro, but the 13" as just can't afford the 15".

I just use for web browsing, email and some word processing.

What I want to know is, New MacBook Pro or not? Do you think i'd miss the 15"? Has anyone gone from a 15" to a 13"?

Hey guys, do you think it's worth me upgrading? Any advice?

Get an iPad Pro 12.9 for all of your simple uses.

Well, I'm in the UK and bought my MBP in 2014 for £1699. The new base line MBP over here is £2349 which is a substantial increase. I can't imagine the 2015 models were much more than my 2014 one.

Why did you wait for a year? they released a skylake iMac in late 2015, it was easily the best all in one around why did you not just buy that a year ago what were you waiting for??

Our massive price rises are down to the tanking of the pound after Brexit and our standard 20% VAT.

What SSD, RAM, dGPU? You can check the prices yourself, but what I said above is correct, the new baseline model upgraded with 512 GB RAM is $100 more than the similarly equipped 2015 was when it came out.

Sounds you need only a iPad Pro 12" with a extern keyboard.

Because of various personal reasons, on top of not having the money for 100% at that point, plus, I felt the 2014 hardware and that video card just didn't cut it.

I can't say the Transcend is the "best," because I haven't tried all the other possibilities, but it works well. I have a 256 GB Jetdrive for a 15" MBP and use it for my iTunes library, which leaves the SSD for everything else. The Transcend also sits almost perfectly flush with the body of the MBP, so it's easy to just leave it in while traveling with the MBP in a sleeve/case/whatever.

Last check I think the 256 GB version was about $140 on Amazon, which made it MUCH more cost effective than moving from the base 2015 15" to the mid-level 2015 15".

Ok thanks. This is exactly what I'm going to do (iTunes = Transcend).
