Would you guy, who succesfully OC'ed your macbook pro tell us, what program you used, what you did and so forth?

I tryed using Nvidia Ntune, but my MBP just frose and gave me the "blue screen"... every single time I pressed "agree" to the terms and conditions in the Ntune...?

I'm using a "cracked" vista ultimate 64bit... does this have anything to do with it?

Best regards
Denmark

Hello.

All you need is Nvidia System Tools 6.03. Which can be downloaded from guru3d or Nvidia official site.

Get the latest Nvidia driver from Nvidia.com. Choose the desktop drivers and manual install it choosing the 9600GT Dekstop version. It is a much newer driver compare to the mobile one that they had on the site.

Install the driver and then install the system tools. Right click on the desktop and choose the Nvidia Control Panel. On the left choose the performance section and click agree.

There u can adjust the speed of the FSB, and GPU

My 17 2.66 Setting

FSB 311

GPU
630
940
1450

These are very stable in Windows XP. GTA4 all day with no problem.

I myself have actually never overclocked. I just know two Chinese nerds that are into that kind of stuff at my school.

Ayeying said that his 2.4ghz couldn't overclock past a certain point because of some sort of limitation? Why is this? Don't they all use Penryn processors?

Would this same limitation affect the 2.4GHz pro?

Many thanks for this post!

So.. has anyone done this with a 2.93Ghz 17" MBP uni yet? Just wondering how high that thing could be pushed to? 3.4 maybe?

Simon

Okay, apparently, this CPU can't seem to overclock at all. Either I'm doing something wrong or its just not capable of overclocking. Even at a 266MHz FSB -> 270MHz FSB, the system crashes.

Which is not too awkward if you think about it. The T9550 (2.66GHz) and the T9800 (2.93GHz) is just the same CPU physically, just different clock speeds given by Intel (intel used the same hardware and overclocked it, basically).

Wait so a 2.66Ghz cpu can be overclocked (to higher than a 2.93). But the 2.93 can't be overclocked at all?

That sux! :(

It's not some fsb multiplier is it? I.e. can't be some numbers but can be others?

Simon

I'll test it after my color calibration and post results.

What panel you have? Please post the calibration results XD

That is basically true. U should adjust the FSB in the CPU section rather than the Motherboard section.

Well, its not all that weird. The 2.66GHz is a lower clock, so clocking it higher could be higher then a stock, higher clocked system. It could be multipliers, but I haven't found to the time to research them with midterms around the corner.

I did adjust it in the CPU section. Any overclock the entire system dies. I'm not sure if its even related to the ram, which is possible. When you overclock the FSB, the ram speed is also overclocked.

Why did you post the same questions twice? Just because its in the same family of processors doesn't mean they can all be overclocked equally. It doesn't matter what system its on either.

From what I understand, processor families overclock similarly. But I could be wrong. :)

I don't see how that helps. That just turns off one core which I do regularly in class.

If you have the same family of cores, for example (I'm making these model numbers and speed up):

T9000 - 2.0 GHz
T9200 - 2.2 GHz
T9500 - 2.5 GHz
T9900 - 2.9 GHz

They can be physically the same chip, capable of 2.9GHz in full speed, but the creator, in this case Intel, underclocks them to a lower "speed" for cheaper pricing. Its a lot cheaper to use the same hardware with different speeds then to recreate a completely new chip for a slower/faster speed.

It is strange that cannot even manage to overclock a few mhz. Do you use XP or vista?

Oh, I talked to those Chinese dudes. They said that their 2.4GHz can easily reach around 2.9 for gaming. Although one time, it did crash because fans weren't high enough. 2.8 is what they normally use as its stable...Fans do have to be adjusted lol..

I think for graphics card the clock speed went up to almost 600MHz for them...

I like HOT laptops during the winter and cool laptops during the summer.

Summer : Full Blast
Winter : default

And why does their ethnicity matter to the post? Perhaps they can teach you some magical Chinese overclocking secrets, gwei lo..

Because everyone feels compelled to place stereotypes on Chinese and other Asian groups that we're, "Geniuses" in Math, Science, Computing, etc.

And that we're also short, "slanty eyed," as well as lacking in the package department.

Anyways, the reason why Chinese enthusiasts get to this stuff before we do is just because they're just that awesome. Not because they're Chinese, or Japanese, or Taiwanese, or Vietnamese, Mongolian, Korean, Phillipino, etc....

Talent and intelligence exists all around the world. It's just more likely to arise in a population that has a majority of the world's population :p.

Cool thread though. I'd be interested in trying this, if I had a MacBook pro lol .

Can i ask what difference does this make to games???? Small difference or something really worth doing? Does it let you jack up the games gfx settings much & really increase fps? I'm very tempted to clock the Gfx card...... I have the new macbook pro 17" 2.93 and currently am using it pretty much just with windows 7 and playing lots of games ;)

well it helps in World of warcraft :)... add around 5-6fps.... but when in dal or raiding ready helps

My C2D Unibody Mbp is OC'd from 2.8 to 3.2ghz, but it seems to get sketchy after that point.

I read that some people have managed to push their 9600gt to 720/1025/1720 speeds and I am using that now with no stability issues. Problem is, when i monitor the speeds they seem to stay relatively downclocked, even when i open up a rendering program. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Did i push the card too far?

I know that the cpu multiplier goes down to 6x from 10.5 but that is just when it isnt in use, but I am having slight issues with the GPU oc. Temps arent going much higher than 80c at load, I know both are safe at those temps.

hey thought i will share my macbook pro benchmark

2.66ghz @ 3.15ghz
GPU overclocked / DDR3 overclocked

OMG may i ask, how did you OC' the Ram ?? Im using the Nvdia System Tools 6.08 but when i go to the clock settings i couldnt change the memory clock because it's faded out. But i OC'ed my CPU from 2.26ghz to 2.4ghz (283mhz+) and GPU 530/1360 . And im using a 60watt mac laptop charger :) Pls reply me ASAP !

qustion which was asked

Well macbook uses a 730i M/B made by nvidia and 6.03_nvidia_system_tools unlock overclocking settings...

so you can change FSB speed... which auto clock memory...

So CPU @ 3150mhz = 490mhz overclocked per core Ram = 1066mhz now at 1260mhz (trying to hit 3.2ghz on cpu.... )

also the nvidia tool allow GPU overclocking so i get around 1200 more marks overclocked and make big diff in games...

also people say about temp will get to high..... cpu hit around 80c ... and gpu around 95c

but i was playing world of warcraft max settings with shadows all day yesterday with no problems

hope that helps...

PS using modded drivers... 185.20 laptop gpu ini file...
