All current MacBook Pro models are constrained according to 9to5Mac, with the site claiming new part numbers have appeared in Apple's inventory system for all three MacBook Pro sizes: 13", 15" and 17". It was reported last month that Apple could be planning to bump processor speeds across the MacBook Pro line.

Earlier this year, MacRumors reported that a full redesign of the MacBook Pro line was forthcoming, although that was not expected until the debut of Intel's Ivy Bridge next year. Conversely, Ticonderoga's Brian White wrote in a research note last week that he believes "a new MacBook Pro will be launched over the next few weeks that will be lighter and thinner than its predecessor with the benefit of dropping the [optical disk drive]."

However, it's seems unlikely that this is the major update that we and Ticonderoga heard about. 9to5Mac claims the "new internal code names for the updated MacBook Pro line are K90IA (13 inch), K91A (15 inch), and K92A (17 inch)." The A designation suggests a minor update rather than a full-scale redesign.

MacPro please!

Were budgeted for new MacPros here :(
I have till mid-Nov.
Dont get me wrong, the 2010 are great, would like to have something current :)

Gee thanks apple now I'm bummed cuz my week old 15 inch wil be outdated way to go jeez

Just kidding.

Well, update or not, the one we're really waiting for is H1 2012. Ivy Bridge and redesign.

Only differences we'll see:
Bluetooth 4.0
Small clock speed bump on CPU
Maybe larger or faster hard-drives as default, doubt it though.

If this refresh rumor comes true I doubt we'll see the Ivy Bridge MBP's until Q2 2012 at the earliest.

Would make sense with new models, seems a good time to do it, but I still don't think we are going to see Mac Pro until the new year.

This will be a speed bump for the models, nothing more. BT 4.0 is unlikely and a complete redesign is out-of-the-question.

MBPs are selling like mad so there is no reason to add new hardware until the normal Q1 Refresh. The Q1 Refresh will be very interesting to see if Apple does a redesign...

Cheers!

@yyc engineer: 1 TB?
No, I don't think so. Apple always takes quite long to get the amount of RAM as standard that probably all of us already have in their MacBook Pros ;-)

Will we see Ivi Bridge on new Macbook Airs? The ones that comes next?
Extremely likely. But IB is still quite far off; theres no real info on processor speeds, processor wattages, price, or even featureset.
BT 4.0 is unlikely and a complete redesign is out-of-the-question.
Considering what the iMac shipped it with along with the iPhone - BT4 is quite possible. Its also the type of upgrade thats easy to perform.

Of course - just adding an additional processor option could very well be all thats done. Did so with the 2010 as well.

New MBPs now would be a pretty quick update cycle. not usual. I can't see why they would push an update. i guess a new case design would boost sales, and then ivy bridge would boost sales again in quick succession. seems unlikely though.

whoo hoo! I'm got my checkbook ready and have been waiting for the last couple of months. A february 2010 MBP would be OK, but I've been really hoping they would update it just a bit this fall....

ultraportable MBP pre-holiday surprise?

Although conventional wisdom would say this is in all likelihood a modest BTO speed bump offering, there's still the possibility, as crazy as it may sound, that Apple releases it's "air" version of the MacBook Pro lineup just ahead of the '11 holiday shopping season, before the Ivy Bridge overhaul kicks in sometime in mid-2012. And IF that was to happen, I'd probably still wait for Ivy.

If Apple was to debut the 15" ad 17" MBP in an MBA form factor this year that might play out like 42streetsdown just mentioned, plus it may represent a strategy by Apple to get consumers accustomed to the prospect of these computer models before they discontinue the unibody form factor completely by the time Ivy Bridge is ready to be introduced; and maybe this is what they meant by a "product transition" lineup they implied for this fall? Doubtful, but still an interesting a thought.

Since when are Macs codenamed with the letter-number-letter format? I thought that was only for iOS devices, starting with the original iPhone (m68ap). Are they bringing this over to Macs now? I don't believe there are any current products referred to as k91, k92, etc.

Shouldn't this new MBP be called MacBookPro6,4 or something?

I personally think that an ultra thin 15 and 17 inch laptop wouldn't feel right. I have a 2011 13 inch macbook pro and my friend has a 2011 13 inch macbook air and I much prefer mine because it feels like a more solid piece of hardware. I think if they make 15 and 17 inch macbook pros too big they won't feel like the amazing power horses that they are.

So they should be bulky and heavy for no reason other than to make them "feel" powerful?

No thanks.
