As I said I'm aware, but not seen the threads. I only come here when I have an issue which isn't often!

End of the day still would have bought one. I wanted a apple laptop tjst had the power. And 120 for anti glare seems a bit much. Just find it stupid they sell a laptop at that price has that issue...

I like the glossy screen and don't see as an "issue"

Hi just bought a MacBook pro. Generally very happy though have noticed there's quite a reflection in the screen. Notice a lot when watching videos. Is this normal or is there anything I can do to reduce it? Little annoying!

Congratulations on your new Mac.

I have only owned one MBP with the ultra reflective glass front that Steve Jobs decided was what everyone needed.

He discontinued all of the oustanding original anti-glare displays in favor of the shiny glass. So when I needed a new laptop I had no choice.

I found the eye strain dreadful, since I use mine for long periods of time at work. I tried the Antiglare skins when they came out, but it's too hard to apply without a lot of trapped air bubbles.

Then fortunately a company saw how many unhappy Mac owners there were and offered a service to replace the mirrored glass with anti-glare. They do great work with fast turnaround time. A bit pricey at just under $300, but it's worth it. Besides everything Apple is expensive so that's no surprise.

Enjoy your new Mac :)

But the key point is still that glossy is glossy at any price point. For better or worse, it was a conscious decision to include a glossy display. Laptops of different prices, from the cheapest netbook, right up to the highest spec desktop replacement will have a glossy or an anti-glare display depending on what the manufacturer chose to include. Price has little to do with it. If you hadn't notices, Apple actually use the edge to edge glass as a selling point.

And yes I've heard of the issue just didn't think on a pro model it could be tjst bad is all!

hundreds of people in my school have the 13inch macbook pro and are happy with them

you seriously have issues if its bothering that much, or are unable to hit theincrease brightness button

I deeply regret questioning the wisdom of the mighty apple. I now see that was wrong and I have "issues" please forgive me....

I'm not sure what the issue is with the glossy screen. I use my 13" Macbook Pro in my room's light and outdoors and as long as my brightness is high (Which isn't an issue with the 7-hour battery) there's no issue at all. Then again, I come from a background where all my stuff is glossy. (My old laptop and my iPod Touch) so I guess I'm used to it.

Although, if they do sell anti-glare covers, can someone link me to a good one, because I wouldn't mind having one :p

Now that attitude is a little uncalled for. There is nothing wrong with questioning the design decisions of Apple. But if you are to questin it, it helps if you lose the misconceptions that you started out with here. And if you actually read the responses that you received, you will see a few other people agreeing that glossy may not be a good idea. But others do not find it to be a problem and that is the point. It was a deign decision but one that does not appeal to everyone. But the cost issue that you keep banging on about is essentially irrelevant.

Ha the last response was more at being told I had "issues" seemed a little extreme for simply not liking something...

As I said I do like it, but if I want a powerful mac laptop what choice do I have? They don't do matte screens...

Ok, I'll side with you on that one. But I'm with the others in questioning just how thorough your research was before handing over a grand and a half.

They do, but the downside is it will cost you more and limits you to ordering from Apple or second hand. As far as I am aware, few if any third parties stock the anti-glare option. You also get the higher res for the money though.

It's also worth noting that the MacBook Airs do not have 'glossy' screens in same way the Pros do - there's no glass layer on top of the screen, and under normal day conditions one sees no reflections in the screen.

I cannot bear the Pro super-glossy screens. If you want a 13" Mac that isn't glossy, get an MBA. If you want an 15", get the anti-glare screen on the MBP. Job done.
