Would have been nice to have an ethernet port on the charger…
If you're using ethernet, then you're most likely plugging into your usual desk space, right? In which case, having a dock to plug into with everything you need built into it is actually the elegant solution, instead of having to connect every cable you need individually each time.

I agree, a dock offers the most convenience. In my case, I happen to use a Samsung ultra wide monitor that has USB-C (and USB-A) ports on the back. I have a USB-C to ethernet adapter connected to that and whatever else I might need also connected to the monitor's built-in hub. Then I simply connect the monitor's Thunderbolt cable to my MBP for charging and access to accessories. Maybe one day soon we'll see an Apple monitor again that incorporates a Thunderbolt hub with an Ethernet jack like the previous TB Display and also have single cable convenience.

"truly impressive... ...It honestly seems to defy physics... ...I can't wait to hear how these sound."

Don't you think you're jumping the gun just a tad there, my friend?
How so if s/he is talking about the Intel 26" MBP that they already own (which I do as well, and completely agree)?

Somewhat related... Would love it if Apple put this kind of audio output on the HomePod mini.

This article mentions high impedance headphones from Sennheiser and Beyerdynamic so I'm going to assume common models like the HD600/650 (300 ohm) and DT880 (250 ohm) but not 600 ohm versions. I mean, that makes the most sense at any rate.

I have a set DT880 Pros 250 ohm impedance. Thought the same as you. But why not just put in the specification so there are no questions.

At least those iPhone folks who freaked out about losing the headphone jack will sleep well. Audio and video professionals live and die by wired headphones. Course now they get to embrace the notch

why apple keeps headphone jack on macbook and not iphone? their arguement was ligthening was good enough, why can't the USB3 port used to transfer the sound

USB-C can definitely transfer sound but you will need an outboard USB transceiver and DAC and amp (which is what you find in a USB-C to headphone adapter). There's space in a MacBook Pro for that hardware and a headphone jack, and water ingress is less of a concern with a laptop than a phone, so why shouldn't Apple keep a headphone jack on the laptop?

Have you heard them before? I've been using laptops of different varieties for the past ~25 years, and the MBP 16" has quality and richness unlike anything I have heard on any other laptop. Whatever they figured out...damn, it's good technology.

You have one already? And did you have one already when you wrote how it defied physics? I mean, how did you actually know how it sounds?

Hi All:

Now that there are M1 Pro and Maxs out in the field. Has anyone tried them with 250 ohm impedance or tiger headphones? What has been your experience? How do you feel about the DAC?

Don

I think you mis-read my post - I was referring to the existing Macbook Pro 16" (the Intel model), which I have owned for a year now. And as many of the initial reviews note, the speakers are perhaps the most notable improvement when they jumped from the 15" Intel Macbook.

My original point was that if these new models are an even further improvement, that would be even more impressive.
