Given the reliability track records of Apple products in recent years, my question is how many more months do I have to add on to the initial release before I see a more stabilized hardware, 6 to 9? Now, we are talking well into the spring of 2022. Hang on guys, might as well after so long. My hair can’t no longer turn whiter.

The MB Touch Bar is a “half pregnant” idea. I lost count on how many times I found myself touching the TB, then moved the finger to the screen intuitively to follow through the interaction, then stopped suddenly just before touching the glass. Stupid action on my part. Even more stupid idea on Apple’s. Where were their Focus Groups?

What this means is that they have an ample supply of Intel-based Macs that aren't going anywhere, while anything Silicon is having dates pushed back because of either purposefully limiting supply because of what is to come, or supply constraints outside of CPU.

What happens Wednesday will be interesting, because Apple tends to have events on the second Tuesday of a given month.

If we were going to get a an event next week, I'd have expected to have the announcement already. Guessing more towards the end of the month, especially with the watch orders starting this week. They'll want to stagger the store and shipping traffic.

Considering the demand, unless you are quick on the trigger you aren't receiving your new MBP until spring. :D

It isn't going to happen next week, let alone possibly even the next 3 weeks.

The reason for this isn't the hardware; the hardware probably the most stable component out of this year's lineup. Right now, the problem is software. If they just released Monterrey beta 9 today (and a public beta at that), it's safe to say that the OS isn't production ready yet.

And even when they get to a gold master, they still have to get that installed onto every new Mac prior to them shipping, so that's going to take a couple of weeks at least. So we're looking now at an early November launch at the latest, and possibly an event either on October 26th or November 9th (They'll skip November 2nd because of elections; some places will have elections this year), with a launch the following Friday or that following Monday.

Or they release it with Big Sur. Or announce the Macs, take preorders, and ship them when Monterey is ready.

Don't really see that happening. They wouldn't release a new line of hardware just to make you have to upgrade them a week or so after they are released. My Mac came with Lion, as both the mid-2011 MBA and Lion were released the same day. They wouldn't backport drivers and architecture for new hardware to an older OS just to push out new hardware. That's a bit backwards in their thinking.

That's something we'd expect from Red Hat Enterprise Linux and CentOS, but not Apple.

Agreed. I have had 3 Apple laptops over the course of 2 decades, last one was the extincted 17" MBP. Now, I have been resorted to a 15-yr old MacPro1,1 pikified to run El Capitan with 2 internal SSD. My faith in Apple is down while my stocks in AAPL has been up. Go figure. As one of the Chinese proverbs goes, 以恒為德, Patience is Virtue, I shall wait for M1X 1.1 or even M2X.

My hope is that invitations go out this week for an event on 10/19.

I'd love for Magsafe to return...however I wonder if it will (somehow) be based on USB-C this time. A USB-C Magsafe connector that could be plugged into either side of the machine would be convenient.

I also hope we see a new consumer-level Apple Display, but I'm doubtful because there hasn't been much smoke around that rumor since early this year.

I think it'll be both - announce the mac, take preorders, and then release Monterey in the meantime.

If there's a delay, it's likely supply chain or transit issues. I think that's probably what kept the watch from releasing with the phone. All those macs will need space on planes, and logistics right now are horrible...and that assumes you can even get the parts to build them.

Planes may not be the problem.. In fact, I would surmise that planes would be the easiest to resolve. Here's why.

Like the iPhone, Apple could use their choice of carrier to get the Mac shipped to the US. They won't have a problem with space there. But as there is essentially a 4th carrier they could use (they already use DHL, FDX, and UPS).. and that is Amazon.

Seeing that Amazon sources in Macs to sell directly from their site and warehouses, Amazon would either have to pay extra to compete for the same space on a UPS, FDX, or DHL flight to get the Mac to their warehouse, or pay Apple to ship it to them, and pass on the cost of shipping as a markup to the customer.

But that's not Amazon's flow.

Seeing that Amazon has their own fleet, it would make sense to Amazon use their own jets to fly the Macs directly to their warehouses, and send them out from there. From there, the Walmart Effect takes effect: while every other line in the distribution chain gets their cut of the money for the product, resulting in further markup to the customer, Amazon can sell it directly for a few dollars less than the competitor, thereby undercutting their competition, and profiting from not having to fork out money to those additional lines in the distribution chain.

That way, Apple effectively uses Amazon as their 4th shipping carrier, gets their products sold, and solves their logistics problem.
