I hate to be a "Debbie Downer," but you wonder with the current chip shortage situation and now the critical power generation issues in China, if Apple is now seriously considering a MAJOR reconfiguration of its new product releases and delay them all to 2022.

Apple doesn’t have a chip shortage.

Why would they have both a 13 inch MBP and a 14 inch MBP? It's obviously replacing the former. I notice a lot of people do this thing where they downplay new products coming out because they want to feel that their current holding is "still good". It's so irrational. Technology doesn't really care about how much you paid for last gen products. You can be happy for new superior technology, and still perfectly satisfied with what you have, without feeling the need to do these kind of mental gymnastics.
I don’t see why it’s impossible that both the 13 and a rumoured 14-inch model couldn’t coexist.

Apple sold both a two port and four port 13-inch for ages that were quite different under the skin, no reason they couldn’t continue the trend.

It is already of questionable value to have both an M1 Air and Pro, but obviously the can get a decent number of people to stump up the extra even though for many there will be little to no benefit.

At least an M1 13 Pro and an M1X 14 Pro are far enough apart to make sims sense.

THIS!

this is what he’s about and yet you get so many hating on Prosser ? At least he’s taking risks not waiting for everything to unfold and then, you know, state the obvious.
He has better stats that Prosser, and most of his predictions are not about sating the obvious. Just read the list.

I don't know the guy, but I find it strange that, on macRUMORS, Gurman is so much disparaged despite being the main source of accurate leaks.

As for Prosser, and don't mind him. I think many don't like his style in YouTube videos.

Probably another Apple event with underwhelming product announcements. It was already bizarre that they brought the MacBook and MB Pro so close together in performance and price. Heck the whole Mac lineup except the Mac Pro pretty much have similar performance because they utilize the M1 chip. Hopefully they won't raise the price of the next gen MacBook Pros.

The 13" base model MacBook Pro has always had similar performance as the MacBook Air did (even back when they both used Intel U series chips). The reason the base Model MacBook Pro exists is because Intel 15 watt U series chips began to be too much for the MacBook Air to handle thermally.

The 4-port 13" MacBook Pro that is still sold today with Intel will be replaced by the rumoured 14" model as a higher tier of product which, for the first time maybe, will have similar performance as the 16" model.

The only reason to listen is that he’s bandwagoning onto an already established rumor. No news here.
An established rumor based on his own leak, BTW. Gurman has been predicting the release of new MacBook Pros this fall, at least since July.
Granted, his latest newsletter is a rehash of what he's already said. I suppose he just got another tip from cupertino.

If the invitations don't go out tomorrow, then it's going to be 26th.

and... Come ON already!!!

On a different thread, there was a discussion of MacBook Pro vs PowerBook for best Apple laptop name. In this context, I really like PowerBook M2 as a now/nostalgia name for the upcoming releases.

Because he is annoying and pompous, or so I have heard.

I'm glad you feel qualified to interpret me. :) There are two tiers of MBPs and it may be that eventually they'll coalesce but I'm talking about this announcement timeframe and not in some indeterminate timeframe.

I've likely been buying Macs and computing devices longer than you so I'm quite adept at understanding technology and my needs and the confluence of the two.

Well, his leak plus Kuo, Nikkei Asia, Trendforce, and DigiTimes. Could also add Morgan Stanley and Wedbush but they guessed WWDC (then again, Gurman guessed this summer).

I believe the last gen base Intel MB Air ran at 1.1ghz with an i3 quad core. The base Intel MB Pro ran at 2.0ghz i5 quad. This doesn't explain why they became so close in features and price in today's offerings. They both have M1 chips which is odd.

All rumors and leaks on the 14 and 16 inch MBP point towards a massive upgrade over the M1 with incredible graphics performance on the cards. It's also a brand new design with MiniLED and extra ports. What it won't have is Promotion or FaceID. I personally think it's going to be a mighty impressive announcement.
The new ports are no excitement considering they previously existed on the last gen MB Pro. They're supposedly bringing back what they took away. It's also a big question mark if the M1 will be upgraded in all the other Macs since it's now a year old.

Just bought a IPad Pro 12.9. Not yet sure if I want to keep it. A new Pro with mini Led is probably enough to return this for…
I recently bought a iPad Pro 12.9 and its great but isn't a laptop replacement. If the touch screen isn't a big deal for you, just buy an M1 MB Pro or wait for the upcoming new MB Pro. Much better battery life and has a keyboard and trackpad (no need to buy those expensive iPad accessories).

Do we not have any indicators of the performance of these chips? Don't we typically see them showing up in advance on Geekbench?
