Well, um, that *is* a valid concern. Plus data interchangeability, not to mention application compatibility. Hmm... It might be a long slog, but I think you will be impressed in the end. Possibly...
And if all else fails there is VICE which claims to be able to emulate the Commodore 64. Not sure how well the M1 will handle running those powerful Commodore 64 apps though. Need all that power to run Manic Mansion or Tetris.

Oh, yeah. The load on the MacBook Pro might require an upgrade in the thermal management capabilities. It would be possible to have that thing literally flame out. If you get any CPU module thermal warnings, STOP IMMEDIATELY... Just in case. It might take a few years to see one, but better safe than sorry...

Same for me as well. Seems like Apple is more worried about how to get these shipped right now than to actually get tracking numbers into their system. I’m just happy that I can tell that I’ll have a laptop on Tuesday.

Thanks. I did UPS MyChoice and it says that my Mac is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday.

Does anyone have any toaster or heater recommendations?

I just realized that I'll need to purchase both after upgrading from my i7 MBP.

It's 47 degrees here and I'm sitting on my recliner with a comforter on me and my 2015 MacBook Pro 15 and it's toasty.

I have a lot of tech gear designed for running in cold and below-freezing weather. I will just have to wear some of that indoors when I'm using my M1 Pro MacBook Pro.

It looks like old curled 35mm film that is now all but extinct.
Well if it is dead, too bad. I grew up shooting a Canon F1N. I had a small darkroom in our basement at that time and I self taught myself how to develop black and white film. Now I’m on a Canon 5D Mark IV. Love it of course but making something come to life sure was fun at the time.

Mine is still processing with an October 26th delivery date, I win!
Mine as well so eagerly waiting for Tuesday. I didn’t do as well on our iPhone 13 Pro Max’s that I ordered. All 3 of those come mid November, with the 19th being the furthest one out.

I'm upgrading from my 1982 Commodore 64 but I'm worried I won't see a measurable speed boost.
I'm thinking of upgrading my MbP (1,1) from 2006 (first Intel generation). It still works, but updates and support went away 8 or 9 years ago, and its user replaceable battery (remember those?) hasn't been in stock for about that same time. I haven't cared for Apple laptops enough to purchase any more of them until now - too thin, no ports, cooling issues, etc. This, being a ureka! sort of year for the MbP, with new cpu architecture, lots of usable ports, magsafe, and internal sound system capable of supporting high end wired headphones sort of got my attention. It's very expensive - around 4 grand for what I want - but my 2006 MbP was expensive in its day (around $2100, if I recall). If this new iteration had a pop-in replaceable battery, I'd think Steve Jobs came back to life.

Hi, I'm sorry this is a little off topic.

I've still running my 2015 MBP and was thinking about upgrading. I was wondering if anyone know if Apple are likely to have these in store on release day? I'm in the UK and haven't purchased a new laptop in a long time!
If they were to have any, I would doubt any BTO laptops unless somebody returned theirs for whatever reason. I could see perhaps some base models perhaps and that is only a guess on my part. Good luck I hope it works out for you.

My status is "Preparing to Ship" and delivers on Tuesday, October 26. There is no way that this happens as it takes a day to get to the US and then 1-2 days in Customs and then a day to my state and half-a-day to my house. So I guess that they took a ton of orders.
I wouldn’t be too sure of that. I’m not being rude, I bought the wife an iPad mini 6th gen. Same thing. I got a notification it had shipped and that was towards the middle of September and I was thinking no way it will be at least a week. It was to be delivered September 21-26 got the shipped notification on the 22nd the 23rdit was in my wife’s hands.

Yeah, it’s a judgment call, man. I’m personally more likely to see an appreciable speed jump, as I’m still on a Vic20 with a cassette tape drive.

Same in UK. Apple says preparing for shipment. Just received notification from DPD it will be delivered on 26th at 1pm!! Happy days

Status has not changed at Apple - still in PTS mode. It says it delivers tomorrow but the only way that happens is if they put it on a plane today from the US.

They will already have them in the UK. If DPD are giving a delivery time, it means that they have got them at their local distribution facility. I am still waiting for my email - saying "arrives tomorrow".

Agree, I didn’t get my shipment info until this morning. Arriving tomorrow shipping from Carlyle PA.

It's in Louisville. I really prefer the process that they did with my iPhone 13 mini where it showed me the tracking information as it left the warehouse in China. I guess that this approach of bulk-shipping pallets saves them a lot of money - one big transaction instead of a million small ones. But I wish that they had better transparency.

I need to think about accessories next. The HDMI port makes things easier as I can just plug it into a display and I'll have to see if I have any other USB-C to HDMI or DP cables.

Mine is in Louisville! UPS says it will deliver tomorrow. This beats the initial Nov. 3-5 estimate set by Apple. Excited to unbox it.

Did you click 'Details'?

Yeah, I went so far as to order one last night - total came to around $4300. I tossed and turned all night, thinking I made the decision to order prematurely, so cancelled this morning. If I order a laptop this expensive, I'd rather play it safe and wait at least another 6 or 8 months to see if any issues crop up. Even if I hadn't cancelled, delivery wasn't going to happen until early December. I'll just wait. This isn't supposed to be a good time to buy _any_ computers, as chip shortages are causing prices to rise abnormally high. Will have to be content to read reviews from people such as yourself down the line for now. Hope it turns out to be a great buy for folks.
I did the same thing this morning lol. My 2017 top tier will suffice at least another year. Plus I'm hoping to buy a house next summer.

Yup. More times today than I care to admit. Still in Louisville though the time has moved up a few times. I assume that it's progressing when they update the time.

Hmm. My EarPod gen3's initially showed only the Anchorage arrival, and then Louisville. I had to click Details to see that they actually shipped 2 days before they originally claimed to ship. They sat a day somewhere in the process (I'd have to look again, can't remember where). Not that I'm complaining. Possibly they aren't reporting 'shipped' until they clear customs? *shrug* It's possible the weird weather plays a role in your shipment process, and many others. It was sure awful yesterday.

Hopefully it shows up soon... 'You can't reason with hurricane season'.
