You can, but there’s no desktop with an M1 Pro. Maybe it won’t matter as much; an M2 Mac mini would presumably have a 24 GiB RAM option, and that would already bring it fairly close to the Studio anyways. So people who want that much RAM and also a better CPU might as well get the Studio.

It will be interesting to see how Apple positions the Mini to Studio transition. The Studio is a beautiful piece of engineering, so I agree that people who want that much RAM and also a better CPU might as well get the Studio. At the same time IMO the Mini should go hard at the lower end, but perhaps not be available with 24 GB RAM.

While the Max in the Studio is better than the Studio in GPUs, not everyone is interested in more GPU. It doesn't speed up all tasks over the Pro.
