the new mb speakers are much improved over the old one.

The range of the speakers are much wider. its definitely more sharp on the tones than the old one. It definitely has more volume as well.

I am very impressed with the speakers. They're actually quite usable. No need to use earphones in every situation.

Im waiting for someone to comment on if their speaker audio is coming more from the right side of the macbook rather than centered/left..

I can distinctly hear the stereo sound and i've also changed my balance from left to right, but it sounds like Apple positioned both speakers in the center and right sides of the unit rather than going for a better stereo seperation like the last whitebooks had.

The plastic MacBook speakers are atrocious. They aren't even stereo LOL. And yes, they are extremely quiet.

I apologize for this, but you are incorrect.

Is it me or does it sound like both speakers are positioned more on the right side of the body? I have sensitive hearing and i'm really noticing the sound isn't evenly spread out.

Yup, I hear the same thing. It's kind of annoying, but oh well. lol

does the sound come through the keyboard? and mine come more form the right too

I think it does kind of come through the keyboard and rear vents.. It is in fact more biased to the right side of the notebook itself.. I guess there wasn't enough room to evenly space out the left and right speakers.

And I imagine the "subwoofer" (if you will) is also right-biased.

Unfortunately the new MBP speakers are a lot worse than the old model. The sound has too much treble and sounds very "tinny" like any other cheap laptop. This is very disappointing because I really loved my old MBP speakers which sounded excellent. There is no bass at all in the new one and I'd be suprised if there is a subwoofer in the laptop at all. Personally I don't think there is a subwoofer in the MBP and Apple's spec doesn't show one.

I guess Apple want you to buy the 24" LED cinema display to get a subwoofer and better audio with it.

Now the only benefit of the MBP over the MB is the screen. Personally if I had the choice again I would get the lighter MB because the TN screen isn't a massive problem especially because I would be using an external display some of the time. The discrete graphics is pointless because I don't play games and haven't used it at all on my MBP yet.

The speakers on my new MacBook Unibody produce sound from underneath the keyboard equally on the right and left, as well as the center vent where the display attaches. It is significantly louder and clearer than on my trusty old PowerBook G4 ;)
