I am a "newb" to this forum (though in the gaming world we call it "noob"), but I'm not a "newb" to macs. I only found this forum while trying to research if any others were having these frustrating problems with their new mbp's. I haven't had any problems with my other two mac computers, one a desktop and one a macbook. Getting snarky with me will not make the very real design flaws of the mbp go away, and neither will people like you who like to pretend they don't exist. Everyone should hold Apple to the standard of a mbp without defects, we certainly pay enough for them.

Ok, go for it you apple trolls, waiting for your response.

geeze calm down...you're the one that keeps buying apple products that (according to you) are defective. would you buy a car that has as many problems as you and others claim? don't whine if you're going to keep getting the same product.

He bought one product which was defective. The subsequent replacements were also defective. Not his fault.

Seems like you got a faulty irregularity.
Im yet to receive my new macbook, its coming sometime next week, but if mine is like yours.. Im deffo taking it straight back to the apple store, i suggest you do so also.

I have a real problem with the pedestal that some of you have put all things Apple on. While I do beleive Apple makes great products, INEVITABLY some will have defects, there is no such thing is as a 100% defect free manufacturing process. So let me say that when someone comes here to post a situation that they are having, LISTEN to try and offer suggestions, this attitude that they are making all this up because clearly all things apple must be perfect is completely ridiculous. @jessica, give me a break...you probably idolize macs as much as the slinky bracelets you are wearing. As much as I like macs, i cant stand the blind faith that alot of its users follow...

You could always go get a Dell. I've heard those things have just great build quality.

:apple:

Actually, they do have great build quality. Those things are built like battle ships. I agree that what's inside them more than stinks. And I certainly agree that windows is not a great os. Dells are also not very asthetically pleasing, but at least the casing is like a rock. My mom has a couple of dell laptops that she uses for work. Both of them usually stay in the trunk of her car without any sort of carrying case (no protection). The other day she was in a pretty bad car crash and these laptops were knocked around and thrown about in the trunk with the rest of her work stuff. (mom's fine btw and so are the laptops) There isn't a scuff on those things. Amazing. Had they been apple laptops without cases I'd hate to see how they would like now. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE apple, and am not a fan of dell, but I'm just saying that apple could stand to improve the build quality of their laptops. If the op has problems with their laptops I totally sympathize as I had issues with my mbp's too and wound up getting a full refund for the time being.

I'm quite amused at all the "newbie" posts here complaining about new Macbooks or MBPs where everything that could be defective or scratched or bent or loose or melted... is! And on top of that, each one of these "newbies" usually has some kind of user name that goes like, 'pdj8876,' or 'prq1231,' or 'plsid77,' or somesuch thing, usually from 4-7 digits/numbers. More than a few I've noticed had less than 10 posts, usually where they started the thread.

But it is troll season, and the season of negative campaigns, so it makes sense.

PS: I'm not specifically targeting anyone, but if the shoe fits... well, you know the rest.

OP, simply demand an exchange from Apple. I'm pretty sure you got a lemon.

I find that hard to believe, don't the fans shut off when the unit is idle? Perhaps its something other than the fans.
Unless the late '08 MBPs are different (which I doubt), this is incorrect. The fans run even while the machine is idle. You can check this with iStat. Mine spin constantly at 2000 rpm unless the CPU or GPU hit 80 C, at which point they ramp up.

Consider the source

Anyone else seeing the same things? In reading the OP, I must consider the source on these reports. Certainly, the lack of standard grammar diminishes the report.

So many knee-jerk reactions to immediately discredit people airing their unhappiness with the current MBP.... some people need to check their attitude at the door.

No issues

We just received our MBP 2.53 this morning, so I called in sick and spent the whole day putting the info from the iMac and testing everything out.
I couldn't find any real issues and I'm known for finding issues.

Well, the only one I could see so far was when hold/scrolling the screen flickers.

Otherwise, we are happy with the MBP, the iMac, OSX and Apple in general.

Haha, no kidding you called in sick. I imagine that would be one helluva long work day w/ your brand new MBP waiting at home. :D

I've found the scrolling flicker thing too. I imagine that will be fixed in the next OS revision. Thing is, I found it doesn't flicker when scrolling on the trackpad.
