I wouldn't say the strategy is a mistake, it is an incentive of sorts
It is a marketing ploy they use to gain interest and talk

Anybody play the Monkey game?
I am not a gamer at all, and I was just wondering how silly it really is
Or if it would something to pass the time

I meant the timing... They wasted a lot of attention. Many people checked out the offer and concluded that the bundle was lame. The most valuable item in the bundle works as an incentive only if people can see that there is a reasonable chance that they might get it in the end. But without an exact goal, it wasn't like that. I think this was behind the decision (and obviously, the consequent low sale figure) to release the pirate game before reaching its 50k mark. In a way, they moved it out of the way, so for the last two days, the attention is focused on Rapidweaver. But I still believe that the timing and the uncertainty or unclear conditions cost some buyers.

I actually checked the progress not long ago and the bundle reached 42.500 five and three-quarter of on hour after my last update, when it stood at 41.500. As I write these lines, it's late night in NYC and it's getting late in San Francisco. In a few hours, the counter WILL reach 45.000 and I wouldn't be surprised if it reached the 50.000 in ten hours.

I enjoyed the original Monkey Island game more than this one so far, but it's still a very enjoyable time.

One day left and it's at 43.470...

UPDATE:

I was wrong. 43.470 now. People of San Francisco! In fact, People of the US, Canada, Mexico and the whole South America - you let us down! :(

Now it's for the Russians to make up some numbers. This is getting worse! I never knew them as great Mac bundle customers!

(By the way, my iPhone shows that there's one day left, while my MacBook Pro says two days. We know that sometimes these bundles get extended, when the pressure tactics is not enough to generate enough sales. SO, WILL YOU, PEOPLE, JUST BUY THE BLOODY THING?!) (But no pressure...)

EDIT:

2000 download in the last 24 and a quarter of an hour... Now it's just 43.500. Wake up, America!

Tweetie , Tweetie 2 pre public beta and free upgrade to Tweetie 2 :D
Now im buying the bundle

and after they added tweetie to the bundle, the Bundle purchased counter going fast now

Is it that good? I use Twiterific (from the last free bundle), does it do anything more than that?

EDIT: Just watched the short video. It's a full windowed app rather than a drop down system... I guess I could always use both! :)

I also have Twitterific from the last free bundle, and I have to say that Tweetie is leagues ahead of Twitterific now, but I think Twitterific is being updated soon.

Good morning, America!

Wow, the last few hours were amazing... People in the US are getting up and want their RapidWeaver...

Now, I'm jumping in. I think we'll have a Tweetie soon.

Guys, what do you hope those boxes on the side should contain? Have you missed anything from previous bundles?

Do you think there will be any extension in terms of the length of this bundle? It might be embarrassing if it was a failure, but with 50.000 download, it is not that at all.

(It's 46.500 now.)

Edit: being a Macrumors front page news might also have helped.

I don't think those boxes are going to be anything. They are just part of the static background... http://www.macheist.com/static/nano2/img/bgcenter.jpg

My guess is they are just supposed to be the items you are getting being loaded. Kind of like the animation for the "something fell off the truck" promotion.

Almost 47,000! Looks like we'll get Rapid Weaver! And tweetie, but what if you don't do the twitter thing......I think I'll download it anyway.:)

47,000 now! Lets go people.. Tweetie, Ripit, MacJournal and RapidWeaver for under 20 bucks!

Less than 3k now!

I've been using coverscout at home and it's great. Although it did crash when I asked it to search and assign art to 4000+ albums.

48.500!

48.500! That's 2000 in... well, see my posts!

Ok, it's over 2000 in an hour!

I'm kinda p.o.ed that the Tweetie 2 for mac beta is only available by purchasing this bundle. What about the people that paid for the original version? Thanks alot Atebits.

Way more exciting than watching that iTunes counter! I must say that this is an awesome marketing tool.
