How about you wait two days to see what Apple actually release, then whine as much as you want after that.
This is talking about the virtual keyboard system assets. The fact that they now include a keyboard without a separate function key row suggests a new product with a keyboard that similarly lacks a function row.
Huh.
I imagined the OLED strip bar as a sort of special purpose media key row that accompanies the function row (above it), not replaces it.
Guess I was wrong. Not sure how this is going to fly.

I actually like clicking a button. I use the escape key a lot.

I wonder if this isn't so much about the function row in particular, but rather to get us used to the idea of virtual keys rather than physical ones. With the rumours of the e-ink keyboard, it would be reasonable to expect that they could integrate the tech and use tiny haptic drivers to simulate the keypress, allowing for a flat surface (basically a clamshell tablet where one part could become the keyboard or trackpad or drawing surface or whatever is necessary). It would then be a response of sorts to the Microsoft Surface, but done in typical overstated (and underwhelming) Apple style.
We just like making fun of their bands...only new product we have been getting!

I was thinking of something like the Lenovo Yoga Book. The keyboard becomes an entire touch surface but with Apple's excellent haptic feedback.

But seriously I can't wait for Apple to release MacBooks with the rumored customizable e-ink keyboard, if only to save us having to fly 6000 miles to buy a laptop with the keyboard layout we want.
It could well be they're only going to remove the physical F-keys on some models, to make them smaller or something. I haven't given up hope for proper keys yet!
Honestly function keys row is very outdated and unintuitive (you never know what F* button does). Now any app will be able to declare any F* keys it needs to and can show intuitive icons and labels for them.
Yeah the other "Special Keys" for the advanced users has to be bought separately.
